Good/bad, comments please. Is this a distance round like the 338 Lapua? Would especially like to hear from those that has an AR in this chambering. Looking ar the ArmaLite AR10T in this.

the 338 lapua takes over 100 grains of powder with a 225 grain  the 338 federal takes in the mid 40's for powder with the 225.   The 338 federal is not like the 338 lapua.

Its more of a 300yd and in Hunting round, it uses a necked up 308 case with a .33 cal bullet. at 200yds is power is very much like a 30-06. But I believe it has less recoil. Its supposed to have power like a 7mm Mag but in a shorter case.

Looks like it has a lot of power and punch out to 300yds and can be used in a AR-10 platform.

I have a Ruger Frontier with a 16" barrel in 338 Federal.

I also have a 338 Lapua, but since they are nowhere remotely similar, I will not comment on it. Suffice to say the Lapua is in a completely different category. The Federal is a mild recoiling (mine feels like a 30-06) and is an effective medium / large game cartridge provided you do your part. It is a good elk round, and I have used it for hog. It hits home with authority that smaller calibers do not possess (as compared to a 308). It is available in an AR10 configuration, but I have no experience with it. Ammo starts at about $30/ box.....Federal Fusion is OK for deer...but not nearly as accurate as the Nosler Partitions.

Thank you, it's not what I thought. Better off sticking with the 308. Appreciate the posts.
