Shot my new upper today. I put 80 rounds through it.  20 rounds each of Federal XM223SP1 , Federal Fusion, Hornady 75  Grain HPBT and PMC X-Tac M855.

I had 3 pierced primers.  2 with Federal XM223SP1 and 1 with the Federal Fusion. The Hornady and PMC did not pierce.

Any of you having problems/pierced primers with the Federal stuff???

The XM223SP1 shot pretty good but I don't like pierced primers and it cratered my firing pin.

It looks to me like PMC is using CCI 41s in the X-Tac load.

I wonder if they are using softer primers in the 223 stuff....

Did you measure your firing pin hole in the bolt?

I'm pretty sure I read over in the reloading section that Federal primers tend to be very soft compared to others.

firing pin protrusion gauge.

Your firing pin may be sticking out too far.

I'm going to check it just in case. Only takes a couple of minutes.
