| If I'm having problems with my AR eating tula.. Can I expect the same with wolf, Or brown/silver bear?? |
|
From my experience, Tula and the former 'black box" Wolf were crappy, dirty, underpowered and not worth the cost savings. Wolf Military Classic, Barnaul (Bears too), and the new WPA are OK in my experience. When I can afford it, I'll take XM193 over any of the above. |

I bought a case (500) of brown bear 62gr HP to try out and see if the horror stories are true (stuck cases, underpowered, cycling problems, etc). Ammo arrived clean, with sealant around the primer, but no sealant around the case neck.
Shot 200 rounds of it in about 40 minutes yesterday. Rapid fire. Slow fire. I'd heat the gun up and let one sit in the chamber - then shoot it. Got the gun hot enough that you couldn't touch the FSB and couldn't hold a live round ejected from the chamber because it was too hot. Verdict - no problems whatsoever. No stuck cases. No FTE. No FTF. No signs of hard extraction on the cases (couldn't even tell where the extractor grabbed it). No signs of melting lacquer. Passing grades in my book. The ammo is dirty, but not offensively so. With the BCG coated in BP 2380, all the crud just wiped off, and there was almost no carbon on the bolt tail. At $200/1000, it's my new plinking ammo. |

Tula is bottom feeder ammo. Poor QC, underpowered and smells like cat-piss when fired. I have seen Wolf outperform it, would be hard pressed to find ammo that would under-perform Tula.
Wolf classic or any of the Bear ammo is a better choice, I swore off Tula personally. I definitely would not stash Tula, nor use it to rate your rifle. Tula causes problems when other ammo does fine (in many rifles). |
| The rifle I was shooting the tula in was a new BCM 16" middy with about 100 rounds through it...It functions perfectly with m193...Threw the tula in the mag..charged the rifle..First shot goes off..then pull the trigger..CLICK..nothing. it kept on doing this over and over..I threw the other 30 rounds of it in the trash as I left the range..I will be trying brown/silver next for the cheep stuff |
| My Spikes shoots Tula, Wolf, Da Bears with no problems. I can feel a difference when using Tula however, so if I got a FTE, FTFeed, I would not be surprised. Da Bears run just fine. I can feel a slight difference between them and your average .223. The difference is more noticable with 5.56, such as XM193. To date, I've had no failures with any of them, through about 2,000 rounds. |

I have a S&W MP15 T, it shot Brown bear like it was going out of style, no issues whatsoever. Gwynne Same gun, 1000 rounds of Silver Bear. I had one dented primer that failed to fire. I loaded the bullet back in and it popped the second time with no other issues. I'll be buying Silver Bear again next time I can find it for less than $4/box shipped. I don't like the looks of the Tula I have, though I haven't shot very much of it yet. |
| Tula is really weak stuff - in addition, it is inconsistently loaded, so when shooting you will get some rounds that are even weaker. My (overgassed, as they are) M&P15 shoots it all, but my Middies sometimes shortstroke on Tula, and does my 18" rifle gas. Bear ammo on the other hand - no problems at all in any rifle, consistent and I actually find it to me more accurate than PMC brass. Given that Brown Bear and Tula cost about about the same, there is absolutely no reason to purchase Tula. Heard the new WPA is being produced in the Bear (Barnaul) factory, so that should be good to go too. |

I ran some Tulammo for the first time through my M16 the other day. Surprisingly enough, it ran fairly well. I can tell it's weak, as the cyclic rate had dropped to I'd guess 500~600 rpm. One round short-stroked, but the rest cycled fine, and locked the bolt back on empty mags. |

My friends were shooting Tula in their M&P AR15's with zero problems. That's because M&Ps shoot anything and everything due to their oversize gas ports. Mine is the same way. However, if you run an M&P back to back with a middie or rifle length AR, or even another one with carbine gas system with normal port sizes, you'll feel how harsh shooting they are because of it. |
