AIM shows that it's sold out. ![]() Crap, I didn't sees that...sorry . Well a gun shop near me has a ton of both. Just for a little more than advertised on those sites, probably no more than what the shipping would of been. Is one better than the other?
Since they're both reloadable, my buddy plans on using the brass for reloading as we shoot it. I was told Lake City is some of the best (strongest) 5.56 brass, not 100% sure if that's true or not. |

If I absolutely had to pick one of these two, it would be a hard choice for me.
ATI ammo is notorious for having severe FTE problems, including in my personal experience. Federal XM855 is military rejects that supposedly were not rejected for safety reasons, though in recent years I've heard a lot of reports of blown up guns using XM193/XM855, and even reports of getting some rounds that were visibly too badly damaged to be safe to fire, i.e., split case necks.
So to answer your question, well, I can't. I wouldn't trust either to be good for anything. for M855 type ammo I would go with PMC X-tac, Privi Partizan, or IMI depending on price/availability. |

I've never shot any of the FED LC M855 while I have shot plenty of the XM193 (it did suck) I thought only limited runs of the FED M855 in certain packaging methods (like bulk loose packed) and the FED XM193 in the brown 20round boxes were rejects. Not the M855 in 20round boxes, thirty round boxes on stripper clips and the stuff packed in unmarked ammo cans? Hmmm....now I don't know. I've shot several hundred rounds of the ATI with out a single problem, other than the accuracy was not the best and the powder smelled kinda skunky when burned. Just wanting to stock up on some 62gr stuff that would go bang when needed. Guess I'll keep looking, maybe I'll get lucky at the Knob Creek MGS this year? |

IMO The ATI ammo is not worth the $40 savings due to the hassle. I bought some locally and had all kinds FTE malfunctions in a BCM carbine (14.5 M4/ 1/7 twist/ H2 buffer/ Crane spec bolt) that will eat anything and has never had failures with anything else. Switched ammo back to Winchester or Fed XM and no issues. I'm glad I only bought five boxes (150 rounds) and didn't buy more. The real odd thing with this is that I have some Turkish NATO M855 surplus that is made in the same plant that is very reliable.
Anyone else have the same experience? |
