Ive noticed that steel .223 is cheaper and easier to find in my area.  But ive heard that steel, for pistols at least, is bad for the weapon.  Is there any truth to this for ARs or is steel ok for the weapon?

I don't feel there is any ill effects, but some may debate that, I shoot it all the time.

There is nothing wrong with steel cased ammo,if your weapon can shoot it. Just be sure to clean well after shhoting as it's very dirty ammo.

I shoot a lot of steel through my LMT m4.

It's not hurt in the slightest.
