I have a few hundred rounds of m193 and whatever reloads I have. I might have a box or two of other factory stuff now and then but generally not longer than it takes to get to the range for whatever comparison I was making.
for other calibers it tends to be different but even with 45 it is just defensive and then reloads. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Currently for my AR's, around 3k rounds. Mostly Prvi 62 gr FMJBT but also some M855, tracers, BH 77 gr and reloads thrown into the mix. About 1k is "open in case of emergency" and the rest is for practice and fun, to be topped off as needed.
Today I bought 480 rnds (2 spam cans) of Greek 30-06 to feed my recently acquired Garand. |

I don't have an exact count, but about:
350rds of 9mm, mostly a mixture of hollow points (Federal, Remington, Silvertips, Cor-Bon, etc.) standard, +P, and +P+ 100 or so 12ga shells, 2.75" &3", 000Buck, 00Buck, #1Buck, Federal, Remington, Sellier & Bellot. 240rds of .357 Magnum, 158gr HP 100rds of .38 Special +P Nyclad 825rds of 5.56 & .223, SS109, SA Surplus, Sellier & Bellot, Prvi OTM, Black Hills OTM, TAP, WWB, Federal FMJ, PMC Bronze, UMC FMJ, Remington FMJ That's all I can remember. |

I have a self imposed standard of 2K rounds per rifle and 1K per handgun as a minimum .
I force myself to stick to it as way to limit new gun purchases since I haven't had a wife to sneak them by for the past 10 years 
This way , when I go to a shop or a show and fondle something new . I look at the price tag and then add ammo total to it and It's usually enough to stop the drooling . |

200 TAP FPD .223 400 TAP 5.56 500 M193 (LC '01) 2,000 M855 (PMC '09 / IMI '09) Waiting on 5,000 M193 (PMC) 1,000 7.62 x 51 (SA Surplus, 1981) For 3 gun, PMC .223 Pistol 1,150 .40 (Gold Dot / Hydrashok) And enough projectiles to roll about 6,000 .40 for IPSC (USPSA) and 3 gun... primers and powder for ~3x that. Shotgun 225 12ga. 00 (Winchester Ranger Low Recoil) For 3 gun, Winchester #4 or #5 12ga. |

At around $350 per 1K I don't have much stocked I don't shoot up. I wish I would have gotten into shooting when it was economical to shoot & stock ammo.
Paying bills or buying ammo? Ammo will have to wait. I also don't use credit cards to buy unless I have the $ to pay it. |

The thing is, if you attend just three carbine classes a year you'll go through 4,500 rounds without blinking an eye. Between carbine classes and hedging against future availability I buy as much as I can, whenever I can. I had friends last year that had to cancel classes because they couldn't find (or afford) enough ammo to go.

The small fishing port of Talcahuano is only a few kilometres down the coast from Chile's second biggest city, Concepcion, where the military and the police are out on the streets in their thousands. Yet, it is a world away in terms of security. The harbour has been decimated - first by the earthquake and then by the 15m-high (49ft) tsunami which threw boats and shipping containers out of the sea and into the port with massive force. This guy was "ready", seriously, and he's already burned through 500 rounds in less than a week defending his home, and his actions were warnings. Thanks, and be mindful, there may come a time when it becomes beneficial to arm your family/friends/neighbors, and don't expect them to be equipped. It may be up to you to arm them as a matter of self-preservation, simply as a force multiplier of the most basic form. That being said, I would have at the absolute VERY least 2000 rounds available for every weapon for possible distribution, and would plan to distribute between 250-400 with each weapon should SHTF, and allow for resupply so excess supplies don't fall into zombie hands. It is also good to have a plan with like-minded people in your neighborhood ready to go to park cars at the end of streets to close them off, post pairs of sentinals on corners, set up kitchens of some kind, secure an alternate water supply, provide for child care in a central location, and have a medical unit of some kind at the ready (neighborhood emt's, ex-military field medics, doctors, nurses, nurse's assistants etc). With a proper plan, you can get yourself through quite a bit of shit. FAILURE to plan, is planning to fail, and those situations are ones that you can't afford to fail at. |

Yet another thing to remember is that if things really go sour (no more rule of law, foreign (or domestic) troops, dollar ceases to exist, mad max rolls by), .22lr will make for a good currency. Someone hatched chicks? 5 rounds a piece. Someone has a breeding pair of pigs? 500 rounds, etc. 1 round of .308 will be like a ten dollar bill, etc. (you can take a deer with it and feed your family for a month, it would be well worth it). There are 100,000 reasons why you can never have enough ammo. |

When I got my 1st AR 16 months ago I didn't even brought any ammo for 2 months. It was cold outside during the middle of winter and I want to learn everything about my rifle before shooting it.
Forward 16 months and I have about 5000 rounds of various 5.56 ammo(no .223) for my 6 ARs. I just ordered 1200 rounds of IMI 855 so by Friday I should have around 6200 rounds of 5.56. |

Have various partial boxes of .270win and .308win factory hunting loads I've tried over the years... My plan is to load/have me enough ammunition to survive an economic collapse (it's coming) for five years... .22lr, .45acp, .223/5.56, 12gauge, and 20gauge will be my focus... I guess .22lr is the most important to stock up on since it will be the new currency! |

I also have enough primers and powder to load up a few more loads for each caliber...
I've also been loading Hornady SST's for my dad and Father in law for thier Hunting weapons... I'm going to start loading my Father-in-Law .30 carbine (which will dent into the small rifle primers I've allotted for 5.56) |
