Can't seem to find much information on the Federal XM80C 7.62x51mm. Anyone have experience with this stuff?

Thanks.

I bought a case from Palmetto, thinking it was the same as the XM762D also sold by Federal in the white boxes.

It appears that the XM80C is true surplus XM80. The cases are clean and corrosion free but not as 'pretty' as the XM762D. Lake City/Nato Cross and '06 on the headstamp. The XM762D appears to be 7.62x51 spec ammo made specifically for the commercial market. Some has the nato cross, some doesn't. Most of it is headstamped FC 09 without the cross.

THe XM80C shot fine, appears to be full power military surplus M80.

If you can search the archives I did a comparison of both types of ammo last year.  The XM762D looks almost like repackaged American Eagle ammo.  It definitely had a different bullet and OAL of the cartridges was close to 2.7" instead of 2.8".  I agree that the XM80 is the true "surplus" NATO style load.  I suspect XM762D to be American Eagle ammo in a white box.

Falar - Found your post in the archives:

Of note, this recent lot of XM80C is in Lake City cases, not the Fed in your review. Also, it is packed differently - it's packed the way the Federal white box XM193 is - just a plastic divider panel in a smaller box, not on the typical clear 10rd shell holders that other Federal .308/7.62 (including the recent XM762D) is packaged on.
