For all you Garand shooters, I got the following e-mail update from the CMP this morning:
"MORE .30-06 HXP AMMO SOON: Our most recent purchase of HXP ammunition began arriving on Feb 17, 2010. It will take another 4-5 weeks before the full shipment is received. Until we actually receive the entire shipment, we will not know what packaging configurations will be available or the amount of each configuration. We do not yet know what our final cost will be. We do know that the quantity is large enough to satisfy our customer needs for several years. We will not accept any pre-orders or establish a waiting list. Thanks for your support and patience. We expect to again begin accepting orders by the end of March, 2010." |

Quoted: We do know that the quantity is large enough to satisfy our customer needs for several years. This is what they said last time and it sold very fast due to dealers buying it by the truckload to resell at gun shows. ![]() They will still have the 10 can/year limit that followed all that. |

Maybe not. In general they don't like to put limits on their a ammo sales, and the main man at CMP recently said they will do anything to avoid placing limits. They don't seem to care that people resell it. |

This is what they said last time and it sold very fast due to dealers buying it by the truckload to resell at gun shows. ![]() Lots of speculation going on over on the CMP forums, consensus seems to be that they're getting in the neighborhood of 50 million rounds. BTW, it's greek surplus. I've been eagerly awaiting them to start selling it. No way I'm paying $1/rnd for the federal M1 stuff, I'm not that desperate...I can wait a month or two. |

Quoted: And what ammo hasnt gone up in price since 2007? Take a look at the plot. The trend is not exactly linear. I think this is a good move by the CMP. The 10 can limit and the $0.50 per round + shipping price should discourage dealers and MG shooters from buying it all up this time. In the end, the sales technique that makes the most money while accomplishing the civilian marksmanship mission is the best one. However, the rules have changed again. No longer is the Garand a cheaper to feed alternative to an AR10/G3/FAL/M14 type weapon. Both M2 and M80 ball now cost about $0.50 a round. Make future battle rifle purchase decisions accordingly. |
| Surplus 7.62x51 has been at .50 per rd and higher for years. Just reciently has it dropped some. Most of the surplus 7.62 is berdan primed while m2 ball HXP is Boxer which makes it even a better deal. You can sell the brass for .10 per rd , enblocs for .80 each which makes the HXP down to .30 per rd. Not to bad if you ask me |
