In an 6.8 AR (or any for that matter), the Max OAL of a cartridge is 2.250 so it will fin in the magazine. This generally limits bullet weights to 100 to 115 grains. Are there any hand loadings that allow for a very far setback 130 grain (such as a Hornady Interbond or SST) or even a compressed loading? Would these cause too high of a pressure to be safe? Would the 130 be set back too far that you would be into the ogive (if there is no cannelure to crimp into). These may be silly questions but I was thinking of a 6.8 AR for multi-purpose use in using the lighter weights for coyote and defensive use and then 130s for deer at a little farther distances since the 130s have a better BC
If Im trying to make the cartridge do more than it can, just say so and I'll stop dreaming |
| lots of good info over at 6.8 forums. I have a few 6.8's and I see no need for 130 grain but I would probably never get to go elk hunting.the hogs I killed dropped dead in their tracks from 110 gr pro hunters , loaded with 32.1 grains of H332 with SSA brass, wolf magnum small primer, loaded to 2.295 oal fired from a 18" 3 groove barrel |

I've loaded 130s to fit in the 2.26" OAL. Not the optimal solution but it can be done. The 130gr softpoint/flat base work best IMHO.
Best bet is to purchase PRI magazines. Due to their construction you can load the cartridges to 2.30", which works out better with the 130grs. |
