I was at the local-ish gunshop to get ammo and picked up a 900rd case of XM193 and noticed some other surplus ammo sitting there. It's brand new 5.56 Frangible brown tip on strippers. I'm wishing I had checked the headstamp but I'm almost positive it's LC milsurp stuff. One can is 840 rounds and two cans come to the crate. What's the skinny on this stuff? They wanted $400 / 840 for it and had a ton. I did a quick search and saw nothing in the last 3 months, and this ammo looks absolutely fresh off the line anyways, even the can's were unscuffed.

The XM193 cost me 369.99 + tax btw.

Thanks!

Brown tip?  It may have been Fed NT.  The tip on that stuff looks brown, I suppose.  But I think it's actually the compressed copper core.

Good stuff.

I'm going to pick up a 1640rd case of the stuff on Saturday and I'll post more info about the ammo.

I think you nailed it. I picked some of it up, semi-jacketed and FC 08 headstamp on this stuff.

I bought a wooden case that had 2 of those cans in it last summer. I still have one of the cans unopened, and shot the other can on steel plates at the local range. Its actually really good ammo and seemed to be pretty damn hot.  Decent muzzle flash and kicked the brass pretty far.  We have pistol rated plates and poppers an our range, and M193 or even wolf 55 grain will zip right through them.  I was able to play with them using this ammo and they got a little beat up but no penetration or any other problems.  The one time I shot this ammo at any distance it did just fine. Out of a 20 inch ArmaLite using an EoTech, it would shoot 2 inches and better at 100 yards.

Thanks for the info. I've got it all stashed away for now. I'm heading out of town for a month on an assignment for work and I think I'll run some of this when I get home. It'll most likely be my HD ammo until I get my hands on some 5.56 TAP.
