Here are some chronograph numbers for you, all are 55 gr FMJ.
The rifle was a Colt 6920, 16" barrel, chrome lined, 1/7 twist. Barrel had about 1,000 rds total. Temp was 50'F and chrono was 10' from muzzle. Ten shots. The PMC and XM193 were purchased last year, the Value Pack purchased last week. PMC 223A. Lot 223A-350: Average 2752 fps, ES 100 fps Lot 223A-354: Average 2767 fps, ES 120 fps Federal BP223BL 100 rd Value Pack at Walmart. Lot SMQ09K360-037: Average 2966 fps, ES 35 fps Federal XM193 Lot-145: Average 3073 fps, ES 133 fps (Headstamp LC 06) Lot-154: Average 3099 fps, ES 54 fps (Headstamp LC 07) Notes: The PMC is really slow, about 200 fps slower than the Value Pack Fed and about 300 fps slower than XM193. The Value Pack Fed is very uniform and good to shoot in .223 chambers. But XM193 is available at lower cost. The first lot of XM193 had one slow round that brought the ED to 133 fps, otherwise it would have been about 50 fps. No accuracy testing yet, maybe next week if the weather holds out. |

Quoted:
PMC is $339/1K Not a lot cheaper for a crap round... Not sure I'd call it a crap round, but... Yeah, I only tested the PMC because I had some on my shelf. XM193 costs only a little more, PMC would have to get about $100/thou cheaper than XM193 before i would buy more. |
