i got 2 boxes of the red box monarch from academy sports the other day. went out to shoot them just to see how they ran, and every other round was a FTF and i had a couple FTEs also. i shot a ton of federal and some remington that day too and didn't have any problems. is this stuff known for being under powered or anything? cuz it seemed like it just wasn't getting the BCG back far enough. i tried it with my H buffer and a carbine buffer and no difference.

i have been using it for plinking ammo for a while now and it has worked very well for me. different rifles like different ammo, if your rifle doesn't agree with monarch then the only solution is to... well, not use monarch.

This. Runs my rifle fine. F/A carrier and car buffer.

You may have a smaller gas port.

It would be good to know WHICH Monarch you were having problems with.  They now have both their steel-cased and brass-cased lines in the same color boxes, which basically makes "box color" irrelevant.

So, what caliber and was it steel or brass?  And tell us about your gun too...

FWIW, I have fired thousands of rounds of their steel-cased stuff in .223 and 9mm and it's all been good.  And a couple hundred rounds of their brass stuff too, also very good.

This!

Also I haven't shot any of the newer Red box steel cased ammo but I assume it's still the same rounds that were in the older Blue boxes.  I have shot probably a thousand rounds(of the blue boxed) through 3 of my guns(2 bushies and one M&P) with no malfunctions to date.

That's 'cause Barnaul makes good stuff.
