I have seen and used Monarch in Green and Blue boxes,  when did they start making it in Red boxes??   I found it at Academy today for  149.75 for 500 rds today...  Anybody have a range report with this stuff yet?

They changed the packaging.  All boxes are now the red color but the boxes are labeled Brass or Steel.  It's basically the same ammo as before.  Steel shoots ok but not a tight group.  Brass is a little better.  Brass is Prvi.

Thanks for the info......

You can find any on the shelves?  Wow!

I was at an Academy store in Katy, Tx on Saturday, and they had something between jack and nothing.  They had .40 S&W Monarch brass, but only two boxes.  They had six boxes of 9mm NATO on the shelf too.  We went to the American Shooting Center in Katy and they actually had some ammo on their shelves, but they have a two-box limit too.  It was depressing.

They had about 10 cases.....

Be advised Academy has to put the "assault" type rifle rounds behind the gun counter like the handgun ammo.  223, 308, 7.62,  etc.  This is from corporate.  Corporate is also pushing a 5 box limit.  Generally you won't see all the boxes on the shelf, at least for the rifle rounds.  You might have to ask for more.  They don't have the shelf space behind the gun counter set aside for rifle box display like on the main floor.

The San Antonio store I went to on Friday had 5.45X39 in stock, and NOT behind the counter.  Unless you have some inside information, I'd call putting stuff behind the counter a loss prevention action and not some sort of political statement.  I don't think Academy can afford to tick off the shooting public that way.

NOT true.....       All the pistol ammo is behind the counter on the shelves and limited to five boxes per customer per corporate..   All the rifle ammunition is on a isle all by itself and you buy all you want... and that info is from the signs they have posted all around it...

bought about 10 boxes of steel cased.308, 5 boxes of brass 9mm and .45 ACP each.  Shoots great, no issues at all.  Plan to reload the pistol cases later on.

Dudes, I work there.  In that department.   I've seen the messages telling us to put that specific ammo behind the gun counter until further notice.  Hell even the 308 Marlin Express which is a lever action round.  lol   This is corporate directed.  If some stores aren't following then great for them.  This came about after the all the Mexican troubles a few weeks back.

That's funny.  Here in Texas they don't seem to be worried about putting that ammo behind the counter, and yet Houston is supposedly the biggest Straw Man center in the country.  It cracks me up.

I gotta ask, where did you get that C-130 picture for your avatar?  Somewhere in the vicinity of Little Rock?

Yeah I would think the policies would be more enforced in the Houston vicinity since Katy is the home of Academy.  Stupid policy if you ask most of us however.  And again they are pushing a 5 box limit too.  Guess some managers are enforcing more than others.  All the cases of our "assault" type ammo are behind our gun counter and we only put up one box of each as a display on the shelf the display rifles are on.  One thing I have noticed is that we don't sell as much bulk quantities when the cases are out on the floor for people to grab.  Our store probably has about 10 cases of the steel Monarch in 223 now.  A case being 500.

I forget where I found the pic now.  Been so long.  I'm a retired C-130 crew member anyway.  Flight engineer    Part time at Academy.

Making it look scarce may improve sales...

I love Hercs.  I spent a total of about 10 years at Keesler, and I've been on the IG team doing an ORI at Little Rock.  Gotta love that airborne truck!

The Academy here in Plano has the 223 behind the counter and on the shelf with the rest of the rifle ammo. A few months ago they had it all the 223 and 308 behind the counter and I asked the guy working there and he said it was because people were stealing it.

I also work for Academy in the hunting dept. We had our "tactical" rifle ammo behind the counter as well. Then Arthur paid us a visit and asked me how sales were on it and I told him not as good as when it was on the floor and the next week our DM told us we could put it back out on the floor. Talk to your DM about it. Especially if it is hurting your sales.
