I chronographed 10 rounds of the PRVI 75-grain load through my 16" Denny's barrel a couple of weeks ago.

Temp was in the low 70's.

10 rounds averaged 2499 at 10' from the muzzle. I had one shot that went about 2540, one about 2440, the others were pretty tight around 2500 FPS.

I'll post the exact numbers as soon as I remember to bring the sheet of paper I wrote them down on to work with me.

This is great ammo, though I'm consistently getting 1 or 2 erratic shots per 10-shot string. 8 or 9 shots will go in a nice, round, tight group, then 1 or 2 will open it up to 2 MOA or more. I don't think I'm pulling these shots and I don't think it's a matter of rifle-induced flyers, I think it's just a matter of bad QC producing a number of inconsistent rounds. At any rate, it's still the best deal going on heavy practice ammo.

Those are about the same numbers I'm getting out of my Sabre 16" midlength C/L.
The 69 gr. PRVI is going approx. 2700 if I remember right.

Mine is from late 2008, but the lot #s got thrown away shortly after I bought it, as it all got loaded into mags.

I still wish some of this ammo would show up for sale again. I have one 30-round magazine left. I won't shoot much again until next spring (deer season...) but I'd like some more of it.

Palmetto State Armory had told me (at the beginning of Sept) that they were suppose to come in the middle of September but that was before the accident in Prvi's facility.  Hopefully they will get some more soon.

Wideners has said they will receive no more Prvi 223 the rest of this year and do not have a projected 2010 date.  I was kinda under the assumption this was an industry wide thing.  If so I wonder if Palmetto will be able to receive any.

I don't think we'll see the Prvi 75 for a while. There is still some of the Wolf Gold 75 (same round) to be found but it is a little more $. I just picked up 200rds today locally but at $10/box.

In the what it's worth department...I broke open a battle pac and loaded up three 20 round mags.  This photo is of the second mag, shot at 100 yards, off bench with a bipod and rear bag.  Shot 5 rounds at a time, then checked.

To be honest, I haven't shot my .223 this year.  Most of the past two to three years I've been shooting my 6.8.  To my disappointment I can't get my 6.8 to shoot like this.  Close...but you know what they say about close.

Even the Prvi 75gr bullets are scarce...I had 500 of them on order from Graf's for months and months, but they're still on backorder and Grag's says they have no idea when they'll get more.  The Hornady 75's are more available than the Prvi's now.

Shot 40 rounds of the Prvi 75gr today. Shot 20 at 50yds, then decided to rezero at 100yds and see if my 1/9 barrel would stabilize them at that range. Here's the last 5 shots I took. I used a 1-3x Weaver and a 20" upper from J&T. The top of the target is at 1 o'clock in the picture (the tape is horizontal on the target).

Yeah, the prvi 75-gr OTM is scarce, but AIM and Wideners seem to have a bunch of the 69-gr OTM at a fairly decent price. Added another 1K of the 69-gr from AIM the other day and it's 09/04 stock (April 09). I am building a 1/9 RRA 16" middy for my son who just returned from the 'stan and the 69-gr OTM should be an ideal match/hunting/self-D round for that setup. Should also be gtg for my newly acquired RRA 1/8 S/S 16" middy too. Will have to try some out this weekend if the weather permits.

Those are Prvi?  Damn, that's silly cheap.  After more coffee and re-doing the math, $13/100 is okay, but that's without shipping.  Graf's has the Hornady's cheaper if you buy the 600-pack.

You pretty much answered this question for yourself.  The ballistic neck of M193 is typically about six times longer than that of the Prvi round.  This aspect alone, gives the Prvi load greatly superior terminal ballistic properties compared to M193.

Neck length is the depth the bullet travels in the target before it starts to yaw and frag.  Shorter the better.

I think there was one person who said that it wasn't as consistent in accuracy as the 75gr.. but it's possible it was due to his barrel.  Some rifles like certain ammo than others, and vice versa.

Note that this is something I read so don't take my word for it on this answer.  Personally I think the 69gr should be pretty good.

These figure do not take into consideration the effect of clothing and/or say, the bullet striking a rib on the way in. I'd love to see a test of the heavy 75-77gr. bullets after penetrating a jacket and a heavy shirt and undershirt.

"I'd love to see a test of the heavy 75-77gr. bullets after penetrating a jacket and a heavy shirt and undershirt."

Unlike JHP handgun projectiles that frequently plug in heavy clothing, the upset mechanism of the OTM rifle projectiles is yaw and fracture, so there is typically no change caused by heavy clothing.  For that matter, ribs don't change things either, as demonstrated by numerous tests, including those published by Dahlstrom and Powley at the RCMP crime lab.

Now that we are into 2010 what year is the ammo on the market today?  Is it still 2008 or do we have 2009 production available?

Reason I ask is Molon showed the velocities went up from 2007 to 2008. Just wondering if there was 2009 production out that has been tested and if the numbers have changed.

I would also like to see how fast the newer 69-gr PRVI OTM ammo is compared to the 75-gr OTM stuff. I think Molon has that one on the radar screen for testing in the Spring when the weather breaks up in MI, but I'd like to get some info before the price goes up or they run out of stock and would really like to know what I'm getting. Seems like no one has any info on the PRVI 69-gr OTM ammo, other than it kills hogs effectively as per another post.

When you open the box of ammo, there is a piece of paper in the right hand side of the box (when facing the front) that says what the lot number is.  The first two numbers are the year of the lot number.  2007 is going to start with 07xx, and 2008 is going to start with 08xx.  That's the easiest way to tell.

I'd be inclined to think that all the old stuff is gone at this point anyway.

Good to know, their website says 2008 but I'll take 2009. I ordered 200 rnds to play with. Hard not to buy a case for the same shipping but I need to get a case of IMI M193 before it's gone.

I have two 1-8 twist guns. One is 16" and the other is 20".

One likes the 69g prvi, the other likes the 75g. The shorter barrel tends to stabilize the lighter loads better since it has 4" less twist.

I tend to believe the higher velocity of the longer barrel would be what increases stability.

In a 16" bbl with a 1:8 twist, the bullet already has two full revolutions by the time it leaves the end of the muzzle ... and it's not going to get any more stable than that - even with "4 more inches of twist" ...

The variances that you are seeing are more related to the fact that each (and every) bbl. is an "entity" unto itself.
