Recently I picked up several box's of Hornady TAP 5.56 (not 223). I have not shot any yet. Should I buy more if I come across it?  My AR is an Armalite with a !:9 twist. Also picked up several box's of Win. Ranger M855. Although it's packed in Ranger packaging, is it correct to assume it's just good quality standard M855 ammo?

Thanks

You might want to shoot some of the TAP first before buying more to make sure it adequately stabilizes in your 1:9" twist barrel.

Thanks Molon!  One more question if you don't mind. Although my rifle is marked NATO, I've been told that Armalite uses an WYLDE (not sure if that's spelled correctly) chambering. And that it should shoot 223 & 5.56 equally well (I don't know this to be a fact). That being said I see that DOUBLE TAP AMMO offers what appears to be an SS109 bullet loaded in an 223 case. Has anyone tried this ammo? I know DOUBLE TAP pistol ammo is loaded pretty hot,but I've not tried any of thier rifle ammo.
Oop's thats two questions.

Thanks again.

If you have the 556 NATO or Wylde (or Noveske Match Mod0), you can shoot any load you want...

He's not talking about the chamber.  He's talking about the slow 1/9 barrel twist that may or may not adequately stabilize the heavier bullet.  For heavier bullets, 1/8 and 1/7 usually work better.  1/9 can be temperamental about heavy bullets, some will stabilize them, some will not.

If your gun doesn't like the TAP 5.56,drop me a line. I'll either buy or trade for your ammo. My Colt with 1/7 Bushy barrel likes the TAP.

Where in TX?

Ditto on that offer to trade out some of that heavy TAP 5.56 from a fellow Texan!

For what it's worth, I have a Rock River Arms 1/9 and it loves the 5.56 TAP as well as Black Hills 77gr ammo.

As the guru Molon suggested, try it in YOUR weapon and see what it does. As has been mentioned on this site before, depending on the functional yardage need for your personal situation (Home Defense vs Long Distance Shooting), the heavier bullet may not be a problem stabilizing in your 1/9 barrel.

Cheers from the Republic!

I'm pretty sure he was talking about chambers right there, which is what I responded to...
