| Is this stuff any good, Ihave just got back too work and I want to get a good ammount of ammo and AIM has this stuff for 169.95 for 500 runds. |

I am reading between the lines that these .223 rounds are made from "projectiles manufactured in the USA" by a "USA approved contractor".
So who makes them? (PMC?) and where? (ROK?) As far as I have seen, Federal, Winchester and Black Hills are US Military-approved small arms ammo-makers. I would hazard a guess that none of these folks are making this .223 Centurian ammo. Anyone out there know for sure? |

That's a good report from two knowledgeable arfcommers (Falarak and Zhukov) for sure, but it doesn't answer the questions.
Who makes it and where is it made? This stuff is SLOW (323fps slower than 5.56mm), especially if you are used to 5.56mm stuff and the POI will definitely be lower on the paper. Nice groups though. All things being considered, I'd go for the faster 5.56mm loaded PRVI M193 at that price. |

Aha....so when did los Mexicanos de Aguila become "US Military Aprroved ammo subcontractors" as the ad states? Are they next in line for taking over the ammo contract at the Lake City plant? Was this a part of slick Willie's NAFTA deal? Seems like there's a little BS going on in the advertising for this stuff.
The Centurion ammo ad should probably read something like... "Made in North America from some US and foreign components, by someone who sends lots of illegals to the US and who hopes to be an approved subcontractor for the US Military some day if enough of them get green cards and work for WIN or ATK." |

Actually I did a little ammo evaluation of the Centurion at the end of October that I have not posted yet using a few of my AR's and found that at 100 yards the POI for RORG 91, Q3131A, and Centurion is very close, looks to be around 0.50" variation. |

The testing I have done with SS109 Radway green (about 3000 fps) and 55-gr LC M193 (3250 fps) showed a 1/2"-to-1" lower POI on my two 1/9 bushies for the heavier and slower Radway with the same POA. I would think that a .223 round that is at least 323fps slower than the M193 will be at least an inch or so lower for the same POA. Still, the Centurion looks like it still shoots tight groups, which is a plus. The bad news is that the ammo probably won't frag at all since it's hitting under the magic 2700 fps threshold probably less than 75-yards downrange.
AIM also ran out of stock, so now you can't buy it even if you wanted it. |
