Is shooting M855 ammo from your barrel, makes the life of the barrel shorter, maybe I am wrong but there is that ammo have a steel core.

I believe it is steel core only. meaning its still copper coated so it woul dmake no difference in barrel life. I HOPE i shoot the piss out of 855

The steel penetrator is completely covered by the copper jacket. Don't worry about it.

Yes it has a steel core, however the only part of the bullet that touches the barrel is the copper jacket just like any other 5.56/.223 jacketed bullet.

"Steel core" or "steel jacket," it doesn't really matter.  Steel used for bullet jackets is so soft that it won't have any different effect on your barrel life than gilding metal jacketed bullets will.  It really doesn't make a difference.  For a good example of that, 7.62 NATO M80 ammunition is usually made up with steel-jacketed bullets (even US ammo) and nobody thinks twice about shooting it.

Amen to that. I keep a few bandoleers of that stuff on hand for my M1. Ya know, in case I have to shoot a bad guy a car.. or five.

Penetration, fired at 7/8-inch (22.23 mm) thick homogeneous armor plate at 100 yards (91 m), will be not less than 0.42 inch (10.66 mm).
