[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Rusty Ammo?

I bought a 40 round box of Winchester .223 Rem from my local Walmart ($24).

On the back of the casings, around the primer, are impressed the letters "223 REM Winchester."

A lot of these impressed letters are discolored- black, brown, even an orangish color.

Is this corrosion? Paint flaking off?

Daddy has strange dark colors in the letter imprints near the primer.

Anyone know why?

Good idea, I guess I should have thought of that originally.

brass doesnt rust....it tarnishes.
