| Ammunition to go is selling .308 AP ammo. 10 for $39.95. Is this the real military AP stuff. I bought some and it's old lake city mfg. Brass has year 78 on it. pretty old stuff. Anyone tried it yet or verified it? |
Wow, am I the only who has ever bought this stuff? Someone out there has had to test this stuff. Please post if you did. I will be testing it this weekend when I get my DPMS .308. Will be testing on different metal thickness. |
I've used quite a bit of reloaded M61 projectiles. Reloaded in both 06 and 308. It's some pretty potent stuff. Went to about 75% on a 3/4in plate steel. 8 tilling discs on a pull behind tiller. Goes through old steel car wheels like butter. 9 old encyclopedia books. But!..... it's dangerous stuff to be plinking from experience. Story time..... 8yrs ago I was shooting some of that m61 at steel plate from about 50-60yds. As the bullet penetrated and disintegrated, apparently a piece came right back at me before I had time to lift my cheek off the stock and hit my left cheek. At the time I thought it bounced off and landed to my left.... Although my cheek was bleeding. Fast forward 5 years.... I was getting an MRI of my head due to a sudden hearing loss and the technician asked if I had pins or anything in my jaw because he was getting a lot of "artifacts" and couldn't get a clear picture. I was baffled and said no.... Fast forward 1 more year... I'm at the dentist getting a post wisdom tooth removal xray. Dentist was CONVINCED a piece of his instrument was left in the socket broken off and couldn't believe my jaw didn't hurt. LOL So I pretty much put two and two together within a week and figured out I had a piece of that m61 projectile in my cheek muscle. One powerful neodymium magnet "invisible string attached to my cheek" trick later and sure enough... it's in there. It came right back up the side of the barrel and seared it's way into my cheek. I had no eye protection at the time and could've VERY easily lost an eye or worse. It's fun stuff, just be careful. I'm keeping my remaining stockpile for SHTF situations. That's not a great price BTW. |

Thanks for the reply. I will let the board know how my testing goes these weekend. I also have two old level 3 jackets along with one 6x9 insert plate that I'm going to shoot. should be a fun time. |

I feel the best way it to buy pull 30-06 AP bullets and load you own in 308. This is what I have done with great success. Goes though 1/2" plate with no problems, I bet it would even make it through 3/4" plate. I purchased 100 rounds of AP 147 Gr for $35. I purchased 400 total. 30 Cal AP will NOT always be around, get it while you can! |
30-06 AP is 165 gr. The 147 stuff is from 308. The old 30-06 ap bullets are hard to find in todays market but you can get the 147 gr stuff all day. |
