I got given some tracer ammo for my AR but I am not sure whether it will be safe to shoot through my gun.

Don't shoot it! It could melt the rifling right out of the bore . Send it to me for immediate disposal.

If your twist rate can handle 63 grain ammo, then you're good to go.

Some say the M856 Tracer requires a 1/7 twist to stabilize the round due to the lenth of the projectile. I haven't tried it out of my AR yet, so I cannot confirm or deny.
