Not unexpected, considering ammo has gone up in price every quarter for the last 2 years at least.  Military and LEO demand is still at all-time-high levels, and virtually all stockpiles have been burned through.  Even once the war winds down significantly, it's going to take a few years for everyone to refill their stockpiles.

The only good news is that Federal and Winchester are finally working to expand production capacity, so hopefully this will benefit us all in the long run.

Let's hope for the best.  However from the .mil perspective....we have not experienced any shortages of any kind in training ammo.  I know we aren't cutting back by any means.  If anything....we keep shooting more.

If this was the only reason ammo is so high right now I could live with that. Those guys need the ammo a lot worse than I do. I just don't feel this is the reason, we are getting bent over by people makeing $$$ not lack of ammo.

I run a ammo business. High prices are my enemy. You can not afford my ammo I do not make money.

What I end up doing is spending money on inventory that does not move fast. The flip side of this is there is very little ammo available so I can not get what my needs are at any price.

They are running behind on their price increase due to their contract Start date. Actually  it is a old price increase that they are now getting.

I still have most of my ammo at the 2006 prices because my supplier has not sent me much ammo at the new price.

I read in Gun List this week which might be old news that the US is providing the Iragi army with new Colt Ars in regular A2 and M4 configuration (Plus The Ammo) to replace the Ak they use so they can feel good and be just like our guys only problem most of them cannot shoot except to light up a 30 round mag and not hit much.
If that is the case and the Russian arsenals are selling them the ammo and guns in 7.62x9 now then looks like we need to let them know to soften up the primers on the ammunition so we can buy it cheap as their market will be drying up,shoot it reliably, buy the uppers here with the improved bolt and shoot that cheaper than .223........that is a real swap that makes sense as .30 caliber is a harder hiiting round than a 5.6 What Say????

The cost of ammo has gone up and will continue to do so... so whats the big deal?

If you don't like the price dont't pay it!!!

People buying the ammo at this price is a big problem... we are the market, and the ammo will be priced at what the market will bear. I know of stores that have outpriced themselves in the ammo market... and they've done so months ago... the ammo is still sitting in the shelves and guess what??? They repriced the ammo at a lower price to move it.

I understand the war, the metals' markets, and greed is influencing the price of ammo... but people who are willing the buy at these prices are just as much to blame.

NO

He is too far out out there to be elected but the votes he snags just may ruin it for a Republican for the White House. He does have good ideas but there are way too many liberals and democrats out there yet to implement them

You are correct. Most dealers do not raise their prices immediately after a mfg increase. It used to take months for the increase to filter down to the consumer. As the amount of ammo in the supply system decreases we are starting to see the increases at the consumer level faster.

As an example the February seventh 2007 price increase was not seen at most places until late this last summer. Actually some folks thought the increase was from the greedy dealers pushing the September first increase early.

Its a bad omen that some people are starting to see the September increase already. This is a indicator that the supply is not keeping up with demand.

OK, this is typical of .gov pure wasting money. The USA rolls into Iraq,
wins the war, and I seem to remember seeing large amounts of captured
AK47's being destroyed in various ways. Typical. What should have happened
was the thousands of AK47's, if not millions, that were captured from Iraq's
troops, found in warehouses, taken from the dead troops, taken from
insurgents, should have been removed from Iraq (so that Iraq could not
recapture the weapons) until things settled down, and then once the time
was right and we needed to arm trusted Iraq Police or Military, all we had to
do was ship back the AK,s that we took from Iraq in the first place. But no,
we destroy perfectly good AK.s, and then in typical government waste, the
U.S. taxpayers have to purchase from other countries AK's and now I hear
that we are going to start over and arm Iraq with M4's, good blanking grief.
God only knows how much that will cost. And arming Iraq with M4's will make
the 5.56 ammunition problem more worse than it already is. I really do not
know why we even bother invading ANY country anymore. We usually win the
war, but all we do is eventually turn the country back over to whoever we conquered.
What do you think would have happened to the USA and all of the other countries
that Japan and Germany were fighting during WW2 if Japan and Germany managed
to defeat the USA and it's allies? It would have been "to the victor belong
the spoils" and I do not want to even imagine what would have happened to the
people, the land, and possessions of the American people if that would have happened. They certainly would not have defeated us, and then just turned the
country back over the the USA after a few years, that's for sure. The USA needs
to stop being the world's policeman and interfering with other countries business.
Meddling in other countries business is just one of the reasons that the USA is hated
by almost every other country in the world. Well, this post got too long, sorry for
the rant but I certainly do love my country, but some of the things that our government
does just baffles me.

Aloha, Mark

PS........You forgot to mention about the "Military Industrial Complex" and how the RICH are actually running everything.
