Found some questionable boxes of IMI 5.56 M855 ammo at a gunstore.
I have not seen these for quite some time, and do not have much experience with this ammo.
Does it come loose in the 30 round boxes, with no separator or partition?
Rounds have no primer sealant or crimp, and the primer is stainless. Thinking expensive reloads. $15.00 each. Would it be worth it if legit?

Thanks.

I have some TZZ 99 headstamp IMI 62gr green tip penetrator, with a gold/brass primer, and no visible sealer. This is from a couple of cases I bought several years ago.

$15/box for questionable ammo seems pricey. IIRC there is/was some IMI on the EE for +/-$500/k.

You goober.  I was gonna go to bed but I saw it was you that posted this.  So, I dragged my butt downstairs and dug through my stash for some IMI M855.

All mine (and I have A LOT!) looks like it is packaged loose in 30-round brown cardboard boxes with a lot number.  Rounds are all headstamped "IMI 0X" (X being year number like 2002 where the last "2" is in the headstamp) and the NATO cross.  Primers are all brass colored and if you look close you can see red sealant.

Mine are crimped.

I'd guess you are looking at reloads based on the stash I've got.  I cussed you name as I pulled one box out of eight different cases just to check the damn primer.

You could always bargain down and then make John buy them!  LOL.

Be well, friend.

Yes, loose in the boxes.  Mine is crimped and has sealant IIRC.

Worth $.50 a round?  That's up to you, but you can buy match grade ammo for the same price.

I just checked some of my '99 IMI M855. Purple sealant on a brass primer. Green tip bullet is crimped.

I just opened up a sealed box of IMI M855.

loose packed in the box
headstamped TZZ 97 with NATO cross
black primer sealant
brass colored, crimped primer

I wouldn't pay $0.50/round for the stuff even if it was legit, which doesn't seem to be the case.

My IMI M855 stash consists of 98 and 99 year production lots.  As mentioned by others, packed loose in 30 rd brown boxes, sealed and crimped.

The "stainless" shinny primers are, to me, a dead give away that the stuff you found is reloaded.  The price is WAY too high for reloads, and if the dealer is attempting to pass it off as factory ammo, then I would run, not walk from his store!

After kicking him in the nuts!  (If he knows they aren't real M855.)

There is a guy around here at some of the guns shows who paints black tips on M855 and sells them as AP.  I want to punch that guy in the throat every time I see him.  I hate thieves and liars.

Not saying that is the case with this TN dealer though.  He might not know.  I'd question him to find out if he knows.  If he doesn't, he might appreciate the education and then he can kick whoever sold the rounds to him in the nuts.

No matter what, someone needs their nuts kicked.

those primers are nickel plated brass, not stainless steel
