| Hell, what do you do if you've never been trained or practiced? I'm estimating it'll take 20k rounds just to get up to speed. Where would you even find that now, let alone stockpile for the future? But, what alternative is there? Can you train from scratch with a Ciener kit? Are they allowed in classes? |
It's there, if you want to spend the money. 20K rounds today is probably going to take at least $6K to round up, but if it takes you a year to use it that's only $500 a month! |

"It's there, if you want to spend the money. 20K rounds today is probably going to take at least $6K to round up, but if it takes you a year to use it that's only $500 a month!" Betcha the ammo companies drool reading a post like this......And they may be wondering how many more might be out there like the poster. This is really a troublesome thing collecting ammo to practice with and hope it is is just that and not to have to save your ass or have ammunition to hunt with. Those just starting to figure out that if frump Hillary or self annointed Hussien Obama slither into the white house that ammo and guns just may be unavailable or unaffordable to most people. I started late in the shooting sports and gun ownership about twenty-five years back but in the last couple years have really ramped up to the point it is just beginning to affect the family finances so I checked my stash to see what really is necessary and will just be doing that adding any new purchase of additional stock if the funds allow and finally it is time to break into my component stash and begin reloading what I have fired and I got about a year or more doing that which will let the plastic cool off. I certainly feel sorry for those just starting that have a family to care for with the horrid prices out there now but waiting will only make it worse |

Im hoarding. I just got back from town and for shits and grins hit the little harware store/sporting goods shop and on the shelf they had a bunch of winchester q3131a isreal winchester white box for $3.50 and a case of Izzy 308 surplus for $2.95 a box, plus she said she would knock .10 off since i bought it all. The bad thing is the 223 i shoot alot of, the 308 will just go with the rest of the cases in the corner and set there. The only gun i shoot 308 out of is a bolt gun and i have enough to keep it goin for ever, hirtenburger, radway, Izzy, F4, LC, S.A., port and more. I dont hoard as much as i just buy it when i see it. |
Never had a problem finding ammo. Of course, I prefer to shoot, not dump mags into the berm to prove how cool I am, and I have no delusions of playing army-man or holding off hordes of zombies, so I don't need to buy thousands of rounds. |
I disagree, 5-12 years ago saw the cheapest ammo in the last 100+ years, especially when you figure in inflation. $70 per K rifle ammo? Military quality brass cased stuff for $150.00 per K? [or less] Prices were DIRT cheap, well under what they were historically priced at. Some ammo that was hard to find and pricy IF found 25 years ago was sold for peanuts in that time frame. I've seen enough original pricing on 30 and 40 year old ammo to know recent years were an aberation in the ammo markets especially figuring in the wages at the time the ammo was originally sold. And yeah, I hoarded up a "bit", I want to shoot for a long time cheaply and I never figured ammo was going to stay so cheap 4 ever. |

I have been stocking up on ammo for the last 20 years, I am still buying whatever I feel is a decent buy. Right now, I keep buying CMP 960 round cases of 30-06, China Mart FED/UMC .223, WWB 9mm and Blazer brass .45acp. And any store, internet or gunshow deals I may come across. I do not want to stop buying, especially with a potential new regime on the horizon - although, I keep hoping for the best election outcome. Anyway, keep on buying - as you can, while you can. |
Here Here! It is a sickness. Stopped today at walmart for a couple of items and just had to have 4 more boxes of Remington 223. Could not leave without buying some kind of ammo. Gun show tommorow so I guess I will leave there with another case of 7.62x39 also. |
Some of us feel it means more than just plinking .

these price increases are FN rediculous. they are laughing all the way to the bank. not even 2%, etc... 12% is the norm. well worst case ill shoot my ammo up just to hear the noise... and fight off the zombies with my Free bare hands ...lol and then they can keep thier shiney brass , worth about as much as Gold. its all bullshit. |
| I shoot every other weekend. Sometimes not even that much any more. I have a good sized stash from 2 yrs ago and I add alittle to it as I can afford. I will not stop buying but I don't buy bulk like I use to. The ratio is one box for shooting= two boxes added to the stash. Keeps me ahead of the curve both ways. |
| I haven't bought much ammo other than the Wal-Mart 45ACP and 9mm in the past 6 months. I did splurge on 1k of BH75gr this week. I still shoot; I have just changed what weapons I shoot most often. It will only get worse. The value of my ammo stash is increasing faster than my 401K. |

The two best bargains in ammo are the 545X39 and the Taiwanese 30-06. The Taiwanese 30-06 is selling for the price of components. Even if you can't reload the brass, it is still .18c per round for 30-06. And how can anybody, especially in the current market, turn their nose up at milsurp 545 at .11c per round? You folks do as you please, but I am buying all of the 545 that I can possibly afford. |
Boy, are you going to be in trouble! |
