could someone explain exactly what you can do with a ballistics program/calculator/software? |
|
Here is the best I have found: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jesse99/anyrange.htmlram by a competive shooter It is a really fine one that is easy to use and Sierra Bullets refer shooters to him with questions they have a problem with..If that is not a reccomendation I do not know what is.These days with the price of ammo it just may be a fine thing that will save you lots of range time. You can download a limited full use version for free |
| You may find that info on a ammo makers spec sheet or several of them for comparasion .Some may use different length test barrels also to give you stand loading velocity.Federal now has an interactive thing for their rounds sold that is pretty informative and Remington has a downloadable program free called Remington Shoot that has a lot of basic data. For detailed velocity at various ranges and barrel lengths you will probably need a full ballistics program |
No. That's not what any ballistics program can handle AFAIK. It has to start with a known initial velocity of the bullet leaving your barrel. It only allows you to calculate velocity and bullet drop downrange. |
The Ballistics programs will tell you what the drop of the bullet is at certain ranges. It will also tell you the velocity at a certain range. Example: You zero your M4 (14.5" barrel) at 50 yards. Your muzzle velocity is around 2970fps. If you are using iron sights or something similar, I believe the sight height is 2.6". At 100 yards, you will be 1.4" high and your velocity will be 2658fps At 200 yards, you will be .4" high and your velocity will be 2367fps It will also provide Drop in MOA or Mils and energy the range. I also sent you an IM. Here is the JBM Program www.eskimo.com/~jbm/calculations/traj_basic/traj_basic.html |
