I believe the mini 14 ruger has a wylde chamber which  is safe to use with nato spec ammo. But to be safe......let the experts verify my statement.

Can't help you with the twist -- call Ruger.

5.56 is fine in a Mini-14.  I have a 70's vintage Ranch Rifle that has seen thousands of rounds of 5.56.  Shoots as well today as it did when I got it for my 16th birthday.

Try 55 and 62 grain and see what does better for you.  Mine does better with 55.

Ruger Mini-14s have been 1x9 twist for ages...

They like 40gr to 69gr ammo... they have a "sweet spot" for 60gr V-Max ammo and 62gr Wolf JHP.

The weak point is the traveling gas block system that moves ALOT of weight as part of the action. The hotter the ammo, the more flex the system undergoes. A "recon rail" helps ALOT.

But, the darn things are about as jam proof as I have ever seen...

WOLF ammo is what I feed mine regularly.

The twist is either 1 in 10 or 1 in 9.  I shoot 55 or 62 grain bullets without a problem.  My gun seems to love wolf but it will eat anything including 5.56.  The trick with the mini 14 is the factory mags.

5.56 mm ammo in a mini-14 is unsafe under any conditions.  As such, you are to immediately ship any 5.56 mm rounds to the following address...

Son, I'm only doing this for your safety.
