My dad has an old lever-action Winchester rifle and he wanted to get a couple boxes of ammo for it. It uses the 32 WIN SPECIAL. Where can I find a couple boxes at a decent price? Also, can anyone school me on this caliber? Is it any good? |

Check your local sporting good store. One of the one's near me keeps it in stock. Last time I bought some it was running about $14/20. Federal, Remington, and Winchester still make factory loads for it As was pointed out above it pretty much duplicates the 170gr .30-30 load. When I got one of these rifles I did some research on the caliber. Best I can determine is the caliber was offered after the .30-30. When the .30-30 came out smokless powder was new, and when guys tried reloading their .30-30s with it fouling occured. Supposedly bumping the bore up to .32 helped with the fouling issue for those wanting to reload it with blackpowder instead of smokeless powder. That being said the factory loads have always been smokeless and I don't recommend trying to load it with blackpowder. I've found some reloading data, but there is not a wide variety of loads for it (unlike the .30-30). It seems to be a one-trick pony, as there seem to be few options for blunt nose .32cal bullets. Oh I found this at Midway USA for ammo: www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=392790 Darn prices have gone up since I last bought a box! I mostly shoot the Federal load out of my Winchester. |
