I'm thinking about building up ammo for my firearms and bought a couple of ammo boxes to keep them in.  Is it recommended to take the ammo out of their packaging and place them in the canister?  Or do you store them in the canister with the packaging?

Thanks!

I get the impression most store without the packaging on strippers.  Certainly that is best way to go as I think as the packaging may retain moisture.  I do however store most in the packaging in ammo cans with color indicating silica gel.  I notice that after a couple recharges over a few months time the moisture seems to be completely absorbed and I've never had a problem.  The cans I have without the packaging and good seals never seem to be in need of a recharge.

All my 5.56 and 7.62x39 goes on stripper clips and into bandoleers. Then I put them into USGI ammo cans. I would sooner leave them in the boxes than dump them loose into a can. I like to keep an accurate count of my ammo. Also, if there turns out to be a bad lot of a certian ammo, I don't want that crap mixed in with my good ammo. I have opened 8mm from the 50s that were left in the paper and sealed. I have seen no corrosion or discoloration in the cartridges.

Leave them in the factory boxes so you can reference the lot number(s) if necessary.
