Is it ok to use surplus .30-06 in a newer rifle (say....Remington 700P) and newer .30-06 in an M1 Garand.....and vice versa?

I read somewher that use should only use surplus ammo in the Garands but i just read a review of the American Eagle .30-06 on Midway and someone said they were told not to use surplus in their weapons.

Will it work/be ok to use old ammo with new guns and/or new ammo with old guns?

Old ammo/new guns=fine

New ammo/old guns[Garands] not so good. The burn rate has to be correct for a Garand or you will bend the op rod. Hunting ammo tends to be too hot for Garands.

Older Bolt actions like 1917 and 03 can be used with modern ammo but I'd still suggest you use a standard load, and not a hot hunting load, if based on nothing more then the age of the firearm.
