OK, I'm ammo ignorant. What is the difference between M855 and something called XM855PD (besides the price)?

It has to do with meeting Military Specs and such.  Do a quick search on XM855PD and sit a while - there is lots to read on it.

PD I think are SWEEPINGS or ammo that didnt meet the mark?

I have seen guys shoot alot of the stuff without problems

I've fired about 5,000 rounds of XM855PD without a single problem.  In the ~8,000 I've ordered from ammoman and Wideners, I've only had three rounds I took out and set aside - one of which I just threw back into an ammo can. I'm sure there are guys here who have fired many more rounds of XM855PD than I have...  Personally, it's now my preferred ammo

Have you checked out the Ammo Oracle yet?

Please read the ammunition review tacked to the top of the page. Click on a "PD" ammo review and all will be revealed...

I think the real question is what is the difference between the m855 that Wideners, sportsmansguide and ammoman are selling and m855 and xm855pd.

sportsmans guide's stuff is xm855pd

How do you know that?  It isn't stated on the site.

Ya suppose the PD might stand for "Property Disposal"?

My understanding is that ALL lose pack ammo is PD, while the good stuff always comes in a box.  Do I win a twinky Zhukov?

Hahahahahaha.

Yeah, pretty much. Lately, I've seen lots labeled "CS" (I think that's what it is, going by memory) instead of "PD". It's loose packed, and appears to be pretty much the same thing. Not up to the quality of boxed XM855, that's for sure. For all practical purposes, let's just call it "PD" also. If someone can find out if there's a difference between "CS" and "PD", let me know...

Wrong, the CS i got from Weidners was much better than the last PD i got.  Its all the same headstamp(06)  and not one bad round out of 2000 so far. According to the guy that does the ordering at weidners, they will be getting no more CS, on PD.  The CS was not suppossed to be released to them.

The way I see it is the box is not marked either PD or CS,....IMO the "CS" refers to case steel, which normally is referring to the bullet FMJSCBT  .steel cased boat tail...in Wideners case it may be a typo "CS" instead of "SC"....at the end of the day its all XM855PD "packed loose"

I am presuming PD=CS until presented with conclusive evidence to the contrary.

Hmmmm...I wonder what the "CS" could stand for?

Commercial Sales?

Civilian Sales?

My understanding is that the CS was we will say tier 2 since it did not go to the Mil. that was not loaded on the stripper clips for L/E sales but it ended up on the Civi market. Of course all the calls to Federal with the what 's CS stand for will probably piss them off even more hendering our chances of ever seeing this type of slip up in the future.

What ever it is or was, it sure the hell isn't/wasn't PD by anymeans. Yes maybe some sort of Military reject, but far from your floor swept PD. Shoot it and be happy you got ammo because the market for 5.56 Nato sucks right now.

Now has anyone shot any of the recent Barnal 223 yet? I'm curious to see if it performs like the last stuff that was around.
