So I have heard over and over again how bad wolf steel is to shoot through your AR. I have never shot it and i have always kept using the radway or Privi on my ARs. I also know they changed the coating ... But how bad is it really? I see more and more of it on the range these days and prices are starting to really hurt me. I never considered wolf because I was getting Privi and around $200 shipped for 1K. Now its ALOT MORE and wolf is starting to look more attractive. So should I start using wolf and give it a try or do I STFU and just shoot less. |

The quote below is from Wolf's website. I think they are implying their copper "washed" steel jacket ammo results in more barrel wear than copper jacket. * Now featuring the renowned POLYFORMANCE * Shoot with confidence and WOLF’s unmatched reliability backed by the industry's only 100% Performance Guarantee!!! * WOLF pistol ammunition is an excellent choice for high volume target or plate competitions where consistency, accuracy and reliability are needed shot after shot. * WOLF pistol ammunition is 100% non-corrosive and features a copper jacketed projectile which results in less barrel wear and preserves the life of valuable firearms. Copper jacketed projectiles are also accepted at indoor/outdoor ranges where steel jacketed projectiles are prohibited. * WOLF Centerfire Pistol Ammunition are available in FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) and coming soon HP (Hollow Point) Now before I create a Wolf advocate shitstorm, I must admit with the money you will save shooting Wolf ammo you could buy a new barrel. Except if its a rare or expensive barrel firearm, I would shoot it. |
| I have shot alot of Wolf over the years. Ten or eleven thousand at this point. I shot over 4,000 rounds through my wife's Bushmaster M4, 2,000 from a Bushy AK brake M4 and 1,000 through my Colt HBAR. All of that was the old laquar coated ammo. I have seven AR's and have NEVER had an ammo related problem with Wolf. Bad magazines and an out of spec buffer spring have caused the only problems I have had over the years. |

(sigh) WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET A STICKY ABOUT WOLF FOR THIS FORUM? Every day somone comes in here asking if Wolf will spontaneously cause their rifle to explode, and every day the same answers are given. Tell you what, Wolf sucks, it's the anti-christ of ammo, stop buying it so the inventory builds up and prices stop rising every time I try to buy it... ...or use the search function, this question has been answered about eleventy-billion times. |
| I just had an experience with Wolf Ammo. A guy at my club was shooting some the last few weeks without much success on geting his rifle sighted in. The 100 yd groups were terrible, around 10" or so. yesterday i brought 3 unfired rounds home with me to check out. Basically, I found that they were apparently crimped with a collet because upon pulling some of the bullets with an impact typy puller, I found that the bullets were damaged by over crimping the neck. Nothing was visible from the outside of the case. The bullets were out of round by.002 and were squashed more on one side than the other. The chamber of his rifle had some fine copper shavings. My first experience with Wolf rounds and so far it is really negative. |

I tried 1K of Wolf and had some failures to extract. But the main reason i dont use it is it doesnt have the same point of impact, recoil, muzzle blast, flash or trajectory as my duty ammo. So if i practise with wolf it screws up my rythem when i switch back to duty ammo. May as well use a .22 conversion kit if thats acceptable to you and really save some cash. |

I want to try this. Anybody used it ? Prvi Partizan 75 Grn ![]() It went up in price 1 dollar from yesterday ![]() ![]()

There has been a lot of topics regarding WOLF ammo. You should do a search on this board and read the Ammo FAQ or Zhukov will here shortly to spank you. With that said, there are two things to remember when shooting Wolf in an AR-15: The first rule to remember with WOLF ammo (be it the older lacquered or the new Polymer) is NEVER leave a round sitting in a Hot Dirty Chamber. Meaning, if you have fired two of three mags rapid fire and your chamber is dirty and hot DOT NOT leave a round sitting in it for too long. The second rule is Never fire brass ammo right after shooting steel cased ammo. Meaning if you shoot Wolf then CLEAN YOUR CHAMBER before you switch to brass ammo. See this quote from Box O' Truth (Here is the Full Article)
These two reasons are how 9 out 10 times people get a stuck round. (happend to me!) If you follow these two simple rules you will be able to come back to this board in a few months and write "I've shoot two, three, five how ever many cases of Wolf without any problems" Here is a link to a post I put up a while back. It's my personal fun time with Wolf Poly WOLF 62 Grain Copper FMJ Steel Case - At The Range Hope this helps you out... |

It works, and I have shot a lot of it, but lately I have gone back to buying quality 5.56 For plinking its fine, but its under-powered and not nearly as accurate as M193. There is a reason its cheap. If you are looking for something that shoots minute-of-beercan and will leave the carrier group filthy after 100 rounds, wolf is the way to go. If you want repeatable accuracy, true 5.56 performance, and brass...go with an alternative. Its really just a matter of priority. |
| If all your doing is plinking or just practicing the basics, Wolf is a great ammo in the following calibers .40 S&W, .45 ACP and 5.56. This is my experience not a generalization. I use it to practice my stance, shooting on the move, etc. No, I'm not some wannabe tactinoob either. I'm on my Sheriff's Office ERT team and I practice a lot at the house. If any of you are on a part time team like I am, you know that once or twice a month just isn't enough. If your looking for SHTF or sub-minute ammo pick something else. IMHO it's great ammo for fun shooting. If I'm doing something serious though, I use Black Hills. Also, when you burn through 1-2k of ammo a month, all calibers, it's significantly cheaper than everything else out there. I am looking into reloading though, it seems to bring the cost down a little more. Oh, by the way I've used it in a Kimber 1911, Glock 22 & 27, HK USP 40, and AR15 with Oly lower and GG&G upper. No problems at all, other than a couple of FTF's in the 27. Good stuff. |
| In my experience after shooting about 3K rounds thru my various ARs, Wolf .223 ammo is dirty, sticky (don't let the laquer coated stuff sit in a hot chamber), underpowered, the steel cases are tough on lesser metals (like an AR's aluminum receiver) and it's not very accurate producing poor groups. Other than that, it's fine. |

I love Wolf. I have shot thousands and thousands of rounds on 4 different platform and havnt had problem until the day before yesterday My A1 does NOT like Wolf, My Bushmaster eats it like candy usually but the other day I was getting FTE, Doublefeeds and shortstrokes after 200 or so rounds so often I had to pack it in for the day. All my mags are reliable and my A1 ate up any brass .223 but hated the Wolf ETA, yes I will continue to shoot it |

That was a very nice post, Frag. Rule #2 is solid, IME. I had a case separation involving a reloaded M856 head shot in an 11.5 after about 1k Wolf poly. And I've seen the brass case blackening as pictured on the Box of Truth site. Even so, I have repeatedly tried to stick a Wolf poly round in any of my Colt uppers. I have fired well over 120 rds FA followed by a pause. So far I have not been able to stick a Wolf poly case. Maybe I've been lucky. Sam |

Over the past couple of years as ammo prices have climbed, I have gone to all Wolf for practice. I use 55gr. HP exclusively. It has proven to be accurate at 100 and 200yds and reliable. I have personally seen no issues with switching over to my Winchester brass cased hunting ammo after shooting the steel cased Wolf. |
Glad I can help. I love Wolf, especially the Poly. It's cheap and accurate in my 16" M4 and makes for a fun day of shooting out at the range without burning a hole in my pocket. Frag |

I'm a very trigger happy guy, so wolf ammo works great for my needs. I like to mess around nothing serious (yet). Currently, If i can hit a shaken can of coke at 25 yards and make it explode with one shoot, then it is accurate enough for me. However, it is really dirty ammo and makes m cough if the wind is blowing correctly. Just my 2 cents. |
