I have been shooting .223/5.56 since last May when I got my AR and although I often refer the Ammo Oracle I don't know a whole lot about the round. I've tried different kinds of ammo including Radway, Guat. Black Hills, all the Walmart offerings and others. Now, I'm looking for cheap'er brass cased ammo. Few weeks ago I got some .223 from a place called WisconsinCartridge.com. They are reloads and I got 700 rounds, 500 are loaded with a 55gr FMJ. I pulled one of the FMJs and found the copper jacket appears to be much thinner than all other factory loaded bullets I've pulled. The other 200 rounds are loaded with a 55gr. Hornaday ballistic tip bullet that I did not pull. Of the 300 or so headstamps I looked at most were Rem. R-P and LC, a few PMC and two I didn't recognize. I've shot both the FMJ and the Hornaday loaded rounds with no functional problems. When shooting this ammo it was around 35 deg outside with wind. My eyes were watery so I didn't shoot for groups. I was shooting with a bipod off the hood of my truck at 1 gallon milk jugs filled with water setting on the ground at 120 to 140 yards out and had no problem picking them off. I also had a 7"x 9" iron plate out there that I had no problem whacking. Precieved recoil and blast was noticably less than Guat, Radway and M855 that I got from CTD. Wisconsin's web site says the 55gr. .223 is set for 3050 fps with no further info on that. Does anyone else here have experience with Wisconsin Cartridge? I have no reason not to reorder from them with the 55gr. at 22 cents each and the Hornaday at 27 cents ea. |

Using commercial reloads is a dicey proposition. $.22 per round is $220 per thousand. That's quite a bit for reloads. Especially with the historic track record of commercial reloads. Ultramax - archive.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=286364 Maine Cartridge Company - archive.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=274082 And Lancer - www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=282644 And yet people say Wolf is shit (yet no kabooms) and inaccurate (and its not any more inaccurate than M855 in my SBR at least)... And its still under $200 per K shipped? |

he said he was looking for brass cased ammo. i too love cheap blasting ammo like wolf, but i started reloading this past summer and havnt bought wolf since, or any 223 for that matter. if i where to buy some ammo, it would definetly be brass cased, reloading the cases could bring the cost of the ammo down. i too wouldnt buy reloads and at ammo prices of today im better off buying 1x fired brass. or picking up all the free brass i can find. |
