I only have reloads of 223 for my ar, so i figure i should get some TAP ammo incase i ever need the rifle for self defense. one less factor to go wrong, and the balistics are much better with TAP
who has the best prices on TAP? i am only finding it at 15$ per 20 rounds. that is almost a buck a round!

edit:
also, what is the preffered grain? 55, 60, 75?
i have a 1/9 RRA A4  16" barrel chrome lined

also, what about the 5.56 TAP ammo thats LEO only? that comes at a more reasonable price and supposedly has better ballistics. is there merit to the assumption that the 5.56 TAP is superior to the 223 TAP?

The 5.56 TAO is faster and therefore has a longer fragmentation range than the .223 version, but the .223 version is slightly more accurate.  And unless you are an LEO, you won't be able to get the 5.56 version.

If you have some time, this thread will tell you everything you need to know about the Hornady TAP ammo.

beleive it or not $15 for 20 really isn't that bad of a price and actually it's on the lower end of the dealer priced TAP.  Usally it's around $18 a box of .223.  I can get it for $12.50 but that is pretty much unheard of and I just bought they guy out so right now he is out of 75gr.  Ask people here what they paid for 75gr .223 TAP and I bet a high % of them paid a good bit over $15

I got a case of 75 grain TAP from Natchez Shooter's Supply for about $12 a box this last summer.  Find somebody with either a regular FFL or a curio & relic FFL and they'll give you a dealer discount.

that is an amazing price and I think that is extremely close to dealer cost and possibly under.  I remember a while ago when I posted that I get it for $12.50 a well infromed TAP person told me I was right around dealers price at $12.50.  Awesome buy at $12, now that's the lowest I've ever heard of.

I just bought 5 Red Boxes of TAP from the local gun shop (no restrictions, no questions asked) for $13.99/box. Got his last 3 boxes of 75gr and 2 boxes of 60gr. He sells Red Boxes all day long to any one that wants it. Also just bought 500rds of Federal XM193 for $147. Seemed like a good price

is it 5.56 red box or .223 red box, just about every dealer will sell .223 red box but it's almost impossible to find a dealer who sells 5.56 red box because of the restrictions Hornady put on buying it.  I don't think Hornady is going to sell a dealer a whole bunch of 5.56 so he can sell it to the public.  I could be wrong but this is just the info I know about how Hornady is with their 5.56 TAP and the supply of it is not as abundant as the .223.

I don't know anything about Hornady's restrictions or any other company's policies regarding "LEO" marked ammo. I'm not sure I even want to know anything about them either. I guess because he has always given me the stuff I assumed he was doing it for everybody. I have never had any trouble buying LEO marked stuff for my .45, 9mm, etc. Maybe the guy is giving me a break because I have been a good customer for years and I didn't even know it. I sure don't want to get him any trouble for being nice to me.
