I ordered some SA Battle Packs from a ammo wholesaler, and they had some PCA - Spectrum advertised on their web site.  It looked interesting.  It's a .223 cartridge that has a brass base, and a polymer case.   So, I had them throw in a box of 20 to try out.  Have any of you people tried this stuff yet?

Numerous entries on this, check the ammo feedback results section and a search on NATEC.

I did a search on PCA Spectrum.  Thanks for the point in the right direction.

Well, after reading some of that I can honestly say that I won't be trying any of this in my AR.  Nope, not even one round.  I guess I should of figured this out on my own just by thinking about it.  Polymer connected with brass?  Polymer stuff melts!  Seperation is unavoidable!  Common sense.   I'm glad I just got one box of 20.

I haven't thoght about that.  Why?
I guess it would be interesting to see how it's constructed.  Have you pulled one apart?

Wow, that was easy.   Won't be shooting any of these.  Way too easy for a bullet to get set back.   Like someone else said, maybe in a bolt action.

DBAR,

I haven't purchased any yet, BUT  Small Arms Review (SAR) had a nice long write up about the ammo and blasted the crap out of it in various M16's and didn't have any problems.   If i recall correctly, there is a (my term) Generation 1 and Gen 2 ammo.  I think the Gen 2 was the good stuff.  I'd need to pull the back copy and reread it for more details.

I've always been interested in trying it in the M16, but it's not very available and it's not much cheaper than good surplus.

The stuff is total crap, but I don't think you'll ever get it to melt in the chamber.  It's pretty high temperature material compared to regular plastic.

Case head separations were quite common with me, as well as double-feeds, FTEs, and bullet set-backs.  And the stuff wasn't even accurate to boot.

Total waste of money... YMMV.

I have heard/read all the bad press on it, but I haven't really had an problems with it myself.  I've shot it in 2 Olympics and a Rock River.  I haven't had any problems whatsoever.  Granted, I've only shot a few hundred rounds of it, and I'm not exactly a barrel burner, but I have been pretty happy so far.  I will probably buy some more of it as it's priced right at my local fun shop.

If I do start having issues, I won't be able to say no one warned me!

When an ammo is so bad that when I'm writing a review of it I resort to poetry, it's bad. Real bad.
