Now that .308 is very pricy and surplus is in short supply I notice many people that used to knock the loose packed XM855PD and stated "never to buy bulk packaged ammo" are saying they can't wait till Ammoman (please we have been through that) gets in a new supply of loose packed LC 7.62X51 ammo labled the same as the XM855PD "For Training Use Only".  At $350 per K it's reasonalbly priced and I personally have never had a problem with XM855PD but what, if anything is different about this ammo that the folks that would not touch 5.56PD are lining up for the .308.  Just a though.

I tend to take ammo at its own reputation.

PD in M193 got a bad rap because of squibs, creased necks, poor bullet seating, light charges, bent necks, dented cases, pretzels in the case, and an occasional report of a kboom.

PD in M855 hasnt seen the same level of crap... but still more suspect reports than typical ammo.

PD in 7.62x51 has enjoyed a pretty good reputation...  while still sub-standard... it is mixed headstamp ammo, and surplussed loose for a reason.  Otherwise it would be boxed and sold as premium ammo.

I have been shooting the .308 PD, and it has been decent.  However, in my first lot... I did get a handful of 2001 cases, that were cracked, and split wide open when fired:

Others have received entire boxes of 2001 headstamp that were fine.

Just an example that while decent... even this ammo with a "better" reputation was surplussed for a reason.

I do agree... given prices right now, $350/K for domestic boxer primed LC 308 is a good deal.  However, I doubt it will be selling at that price when ammoman restocks.
