Hi, new guy to this particular forum... Have a six year old Armalite M-15A4 (T) 16" SST Carbine. (Yeah, they don't make 'em any more...) Also have an M-15A4(T) 20" SST barrel and reciever group on order. Will be getting an additional M-15A4(T) 24" SST with receiver group before next the next Congress is sworn in... The 16" barrel has the Armalite muzzle break, but will get a new flash suppressor, and and the coming 20" has had a flash suppressor added to it. Both are short to medium range, hence the flash suppressor. The longer barreled 24" upper I haven't made-up my mind, yet... Depending upon the wisdom and advice this thread generates, it may stay sans muzzle break, or flash suppressor... I shoot Hornady 75gr. BTHP and 75gr. TAP rounds, and have my optics set for those rounds. However, for practice, I generally shoot 62gr. M822, Brit SS109, or 62gr Winchester FMJs... Have not shot a weapon after dark in many years. Haven't had any need or desire to... All engineering being a compromise, I realize that the same ammo out of three different tubes, will perform differently, as well as be more or less effecient in burning powder before, or after, leaving the muzzle. Is there any particular ammo that performs like Black Hills' MK262 77gr, that doesn't light me up, or the countryside for miles around? The reason I ask these things? House next door was burgled AND set afire... Luckily for the owner, fire was put out quickly, and he's got great insurance. If something were to happen to my house, I wouldn't want to be like the unwise fighter pilot who, "first to light-up (radar) gets smoked..." Losing my night vision, and being illuminated, is not desired (by me, at least!). I appreciate any and all help on this. Thanks for your time and kind consideration. Sincerely, C.F. Leffen |
