| Trying to reorganize some of my stores. Currently its in the boxes in ammo cans. Is there any reason not to take it out of the boxes and store it loose in the cans? This would free up a good bit of both space and cans for me. |
| i dont like to keep ammo loose. its in a box, maybe not the factory box, maybe a random box i scrounged, but its in a box. far easier for me to pack some ammo away for a range trip and get an idea how many rounds i have left (aka when i'll need to sit at the bench and load more.) |
I cut the ID off one box and sit in in the ammo can with the disaccant. Besides the info on the outside of the can I have the manufactures info just in case of a kaboom I have some proof of what was in the can. |
What are you expecting to get paid if a round blows up? Thats rediculous, theres no way a factory can insure every round that leaves it is safe for every gun out there. Its part of the risk of shooting. |
that's exactly what he's expecting. If the ammo was bad and you have the box it came from and whatever ammo is left from that box they can check to see if it was a bad lot and if so the ammo company will pay to have your gun fixed. |
Depends on your boxes, I suppose. Winchester Q3131A boxes, you can fit 1000 rounds (boxed) in a 50 cal ammo can. When loose, you can only get maybe 100 more rounds in there. I leave my Q3131A boxed. All my Guat, I dumped out of the boxes loose. |
Actually, when an AR kabooms, it is usually the ammo's fault and the ammo manufacturer is generally held liable. They will try to pin it on the AR's manufacturer, but it almost always come back to the ammo co. They do tend to pay for new rifles. |
That's what I am doing right now. The World Series is a great time to sit in front of the set and load ammo on strippers. Don't have to pay that much attention. The Q3131 gets put on strippers, put back in the cardboards in came in W/O the inserts and packed in the ammo can in it's original box. The Q3131A goes on strippers and in bandos. AE 223 boxes go straight in the ammo cans. The Guat get dumped in loose. Thank God the M855 comes on strippers and cardboards & some in bandos too. Half of my XM193 is in the original boxes and half on strippers, cardboards and bandos. After the World Series thats it. Whatever is not on strippers will be packed away in cans packaged as is. When I started all this I never thought it would be such a task. Never thought there would be this much ammo involved either. |
+1 Most all of my plinking re/handloads get loosly thrown in a well labeled ammo can and more important (PD, Target, Hunting) handloads go in MTM 20 and 50rd plastic boxes. Stang |
What he said. If I have 20 rounds in a long-ass box with plastic inserts like Rem UMC comes in, I dump it loose into heavy Ziploc bags (left over from my Ultramax bulk ammo buys) and put it in 50-cal ammo cans for storage with the torn-off ends of the boxes with the lot numbers on them. If they're packed pretty tightly in the box, keep them boxed. |
yeah good Deal I did do this with my XM193 and Q3131 ,Q3131A Both rounds are outstanding it will be most likely surplus will Kaboom my AR or ADCOM Now I wish I kept the sales ticket Remember the guy that couldnt get his AR replaced just because of the BOX that STILL gets me |
PLZ dont try to SKOOL US

Sounds good My Daughter loves helping me do strippers After buying all that LC M855 I now have TONS of BANDOLIERS etc! |
|
In descending order........ Reloading components, waiting to be loaded Original boxes in 50 cal cans or in battle packs On stripper clips in bandoleers Loaded in magazines None "loose"- I spend too much time trying to get the runnout <.003 or so. The idea of all those bullets bashing around in an ammo can is against my religion. Bandoleers (OldSarge) and ammo cans (Mikes Merchandise here locally) are too cheap. |
I have a box of receipts I keep on a shelf in the walk in closet that's in the master bedroom. I keep every receipt for everything I buy. Everything. When I start the box I put a start date on it and when it's full I put the end date on it and store it in the basement. I also have all my packing slips for ammo and firearms accessory's in it + folders (backed up) on my computer for every online order of firearm accessories, ammo, etc. and the emails and tracking emails. The only bad thing about that is with one click I can look up what, where, when and how much I paid for it. strippers and bandoleers wasnt an option, or I'd've voted for that instead of loose. For me, either are better for speed/ease of loading than keeping them in boxes. Save one empty box and store it in a bando pocket, or in the can of loose ammo if you want to keep track. |
