I don't think sub-sonic 5.56 is possible.  5.56 is loaded hotter than .223 and .223 isn't sub-sonic.

Plus, I don't think I'd want the .223 bullet to go slower than 1000-ish FPS.  One, I don't think it would cycle an AR, and two, I don't see the bullet doing much good at that slow of a velocity.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong....

The point is that it doesn't cycle the gun or make noise, and anyone who uses it ought to know that it doesn't do much on the other end and plan accordingly.

I wish I would have explained why I was looking first so I didn't look like an idiot.

I understand the limitations and tried to explain it to a customer of mine who is dead set on getting ss ammo for his AR. I explained that a 55 gr bullet going 1k fps is basically a 22 LR. I also explained that it wouldn't cycle his action.

He has his reasons for wanting it which I won't go into.

Can you talk him into a dedicated suppressed .22 LR upper? With a fast twist barrel for Aguila 60gr SSS?

Good question. He's rather head strong. I gave him the downside but my policy is never to ridicule a customer. The guy is actually an instructor at 2 well know Companies.

handload.

I'm doing so myself. I've read alot of good reports on using Trailboss for subsonic loading. Jsut got my Chronograph in the mail yesterday, so now the fun begins.

As for subsonic loads, what about Extreme Shock USA's:
223100COV20 5.56MM 100gr Covert 975 fps Non-Cycling 20 Round Box or
223100ASP20 5.56MM 100gr ASP (ADVANCED SUBSONIC ROUND) Will function action of M-4 in 14, 16, 20" barrels with or without suppressor! 975 fps Full-Cycling 20 Round Box
ammo?

Its a new design.  The old 127 grain stuff they sold was too unstable to remain accuate past 15 yards.  Noone I know of has tested the new 100 grain stuff.  The old stuff WAS subsonic and it DID cycle the weapon.

HSM has a 110 gr that cycles. But right now they are out of bullets. They are working on getting more made.
