I have some ammo cans that I'm thinking of storeing 1K of IMI ammo in. I was thinking of using zip-loc bags and dessicant packs in the cans. Is this a good method of storing the ammo. Does anybody have any suggestions?

That's a fine way to store it. There's no magical formula other than that.

Just make sure the dessicant is "inside" the zip-loc bags. If you seal ammo inside a zip-loc, you are also sealing in the ambient humidity with it and if it gets cold, condensation will form inside the bag.

Don't worry about storing them in zip locks. Go Ahead and cut a piece of cardboard and slip it on the inside bottom of the can. You'll be set for oh about 30 years or so.

Put the ammo on stripper clips in bandoleers with spoons inside the ammo can with dessicant packs. It will make the baby Jesus happy.

You can just put the ammo straight into the cans with some dessicant packs and you will be fine. You don't need to use ziploc bags. As long as the gasket is in good shape on the can, you will be GTG.

What is the general rule on vacuum packing? That should be good right? Anyone else try it?

throw it in a can.... without any dessicant, and I guarantee it will outlive you.

If, after 50 years... it isnt any good, look me up and I will replace it.

You can do it and it has been done before. But... it's kinda extreme, dontcha think? Seriously; just put the ammo in cans with dessicant and you'll be fine. Save the ziploc bags for sammich's at the range!
