i was wondering if black hills mk262 mod 1 ammunition was remanufactured or new ammunition. i understand that it is factory seconds but does this mean it is new or remade? thanks -blue ETA: also does anyone have any links or info. in regards to this ammunition and ballistic gelatin tests or ballistics? thanks |

It's new ammo, but they are out of it again... Go to this page, scroll down to 5.56mm www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat602007&id=0012680213641a&navCount=1&podId=0012680&parentId=cat20839&navAction=push&catalogCode=XG&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20839&hasJS=true |

oh yeah i know they are out, but next time they do another run i was thinking about getting some and i would like to do some research. i have used the blue box stuff and i know its remanufactured but with everyone talking about how great this stuff is i just wanted to do some digging. thanks -blue |

Its new ammo that the military rejected for some reason just like much of the 55 grain. I am on my third lot of it. This lot I got today with 06 headstamps looks really good. You can tell BH uses pre primed Winchester brass as it had the red sealant all over the primers and casing. JR |
thanks jrandy do you have any info. on wounding capabilities of this ammunition? thanks -blue |
does anyone ever shop the EE here???? just because they are out doesnt mean that a dealer here isnt...............damn. ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=133&t=372969 |

JRandyH, Small correction, but one I would like to make, the MK262 seconds ammo is not ammo that has been rejected by the military, it is cosmetic seconds that we culled during our inspection process here, before shipping to the military. The difference is that it is a byproduct of the QC program we live by. The military has never found reason to ever reject any MK262 that we have shipped ot them. Small distinction, but important to us. Thanks for the opportunity to clarify. Jeff Hoffman |
thanks for the info. sierraeight. can i ask you exactly what your company looks for in the inspection process that causes the ammo to fail your QC? dents, dings, crips, ect.? also would anyone have any information or a link to the ballistics tests of this ammunition? thanks -blue |

I find that the WCC brass is a lot more prone to dents and dings. I actually pulled a couple out of each box of the Mk262 seconds I received and they will be shot with a close eye behind some good shooting glasses. If they fail to chamber or go in a little rough, I'm gonna toss em'. Shame to toss a $0.70 bullet though. Now the LC brass on the otherhand only had minor dings. The biggest thing I noticed was discoloration with the LC brass. I was pretty happy with the LC brassed ammo I purchased. No offense, but I personally don't think the "factory seconds" are worth $30-$40/50rds. I'll not order anymore of it. I would however pay $35-40/50rds. for Grade 1 stuff anytime. ![]() -X (BTW, I'm not bashing on BH at all. I love the blue and red box 75gr. rounds. I'm just not happy with the mk262 SECONDS with the WCC brass cased rounds.) |
There is tons of info on the ammunitions terminal performance. Its not as good as Hornady 75 grain bullets due to the late yaw cycle but better than pretty much everything else if you hold fast to the 12" minimum penetration. I dont see any reason to purchase the ammo since its second best and I can buy something better. |
do you have any links to the terminal performance of the ammunition thanks -blue |
Here you go: www.btammolabs.com/tests/6.htm |
| Please note that the ammo that is 77 grain in that test is a Nosler bullet. Its not in MK262 ammo you can buy. It was a one time run by BH. That is NOT the ballistics of 77 grain MK262Mod1 which uses a Sierra bullet but the 75 grain is accurate although there is cannelured 5.56 pressure availble that I use. If you want to find testing go look at tacticalforums.com and do a search. |
so is there one with the mk262 shot into ballistic gelitin? thanks -blue |

Thatguyblue, Cosmetic second include imperfections that do not affect safety, function or performance. things in that category can be too much case sealant, no visible primer sealant, sealant in the wrong places, like on the side of the cases, small dents, a granule of propellant between the case neck and projectile (as long as it still gages),minor creases in the case caused during the brass necking process, tarnish, cosmetic imperfections on the surface of the primer. Black-x, our satisfaction guarenteed policy still stands. If you are unhappy in any way with our product, please call Carl 1-800-568-6625 . He will arrrange a return of the ammo in question and a refund of your money, including return shipping. We would like to have a chance to look at the ammo you are unhappy with and resolve your concerns. Sinister, Thanks for the feedback! I am glad the ammo worked out well for you, please keep in touch. I understand you have changed assignments. Call sometime to let me know where you are now. Jeff |
thanks for the response |
Thanks Jeff, but I've already shot the rounds that were the worst. I loaded each one manually by hand. They all functioned just fine and even blew the cases back into the correct shape. lol Plus I wouldn't want my money back. I like the bullets and would only want an exchange, but don't worry about it. I'll keep the rounds I have to shoot and I'll also keep my fingers crossed that I'll be able to get some 1st grade mk262. Thanks again, -X |
Doh! You posted as I was typing! I want some free ammo too. -X |
