[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Ammo Storage

Besides GI ammo cans is there any thing else you can do to protect the ammo while it's in the cans that really works? Baggies or whatever?........Thanks

I don't use the USGI cans but I do use similar ones made of plastic. As long as you keep them in a cool dry place and the gasket ring is in good shape and throw in some desecent packs that's all you will need to make your ammo last forever.

Consider some of the surplus ammo has been in paper boxes for years and who knows in what storage conditions and don't worry. If paper boxes keep ammo ok for 30-40 years under those circumstances, , you can keep yours in boxes for years too.

My main thing is I don't store ammo in the garage or the shed, only inside the house where the temp is consistant and the humidity is fairly low.

I just add desiccant packets.

I use the ammo cans. but some of my "survival" buddies swear by storing ammo using the vacuum-pak machines for food storage, sucking out all the air. They buy the machines and bags at Wally-World, etc. Looks likea "freeze-dried" clip of ammo!

JUST KEEP THE TEMP AND HUMIDITY EVEN AND YOU'LL BE FINE!
