If you found PMC 55-gr .223 at a gun shop for $4.39 / box of 20, how much would you buy?

I bought 10 boxes- it was all the cash I had on me.

Now I have a little plinking stash for the weekend.  4073

I bought some years ago in several calibers and it ain't great. I shot a box of 10mm few weeks ago that was maybe 6 or 7 years old and about 10% didn't go bang.
I still have some 223 but going to shoot it up when I just go plinking.

Unless it was the ONLY brass-cased .223 around, I'd go with something else.

On the flip side, it isn't "bad" ammo.  They just have a history of loading it kind of light, so it's not really M193.  The brass is pretty good for reloading...

Older PMC was an M193 spec loading, then somewhere between 1998-1999 the supply dried up.   Rumors were that the ammo was being made on US donated equipment and the stooges(Clintoon or ATF) told them to put a stop to it.

The supply of PMC dried up for a time and then came back, when it returned it was noticably downloaded(such that my 20in gov't. had problems cycling it).    About a year later a new PMC was brought in that was clearly South African manufacture(PSD headstamp) with a different primer sealant and a different bullet(smooth bullet canneluer instead of knurreled/serrated), this stuff wasn't quite as hot as the good 'ol days of PMC pre-1998 but it was better than the post 1998-99 red/white box that wouldn't run my 20in Gov't.

Honestly, I wouldn't be buying it at that price unless it was as somebody else mentioned with the camo boxes on stripper clips.   The stripper clips and assurance that it would be M193 spec would be the only reason it would be worth the money to me.

I have some PMC red/white box that I recently bought at a local shop for $4 per box  (I cleaned them out).  Some of it is made in Korea and some in SA;  its all in very good shape with cannelured bullets.    I've shot about 120rds of the Korean with good results.  There were no screw ups and it showed above average accuracy,  although it doesn't seem to be loaded particularly hot.  Guatamalan or Radway  (or Wolf)  are cheaper,  but not by that much so I'm happy with what I got.  I don't think there will be more anyway.

FMJ;

The most recent PMC is made in SA - I have bought some of those.  It says so on on the box-RSA.  It is loaded lighter than the Koren made variant that I prefer and have in stock.   In 20 inch, AR15's the SA made cycles just fine.

I have not bought any PMC recently (2 yrs)  to see if they still made in RSA.

PS.  I am also not confusing these with the PMP Ammo.

I've still got about a case of the red boxed PMC.  Great stuff!!  Doesn't have much flash retardant, but it's definitely good stuff.

I'd love to be able to buy several more cases again.
