I'm curious about the HP stuff, all I do is plink at paper, rotten store produce, water jugs and junk, will the HP be more "amusing" insofar as damage done to the stuff, or will it not even matter?

Zero difference.   Read the ammo-oracle and the review thread for wolf.   I shoot whatever 55gn is availble and cheaper.   If the same price I shoot the FMJ.   It all goes bang.

I find the HP does alittle better on squirrels for me than the fmj does. Makes a bigger hole usually where as the FMJ just makes a .22 hole as it goes down range.

But other than that no difference.
