I probably have at least 750 rounds of UMC made in the late 80's early 90's. It was the most accurate in my HBAR COLT 1/7 twist at the time.
This still shoots very nicely in my Varminter and bushy 16. I doubt if its anywhere near as accurate in my current guns as thw WWB Made in Israel.

shhhhhhhhh It is an inside joke we use when we talk about what happens if guns are banned.  Everyone will misteriously have boating accidents. You didn't hear this from me.

Whats going on with the WWB?  I usually purchase it at Academy but for the last month they are out of stock.  All the Walmarts I've been to latley are selling the 40 packs for $ 9.98 now instead $7.73.  I went to two Walmarts tonight and at the first one I purchased the only box remaining which was the display box behind the glass case and the second had about 50 boxes ( I got 4 boxes).  Both locations are charging $9.98 per 40 pack.

If you guys can't find the Remington UMC try a different walmart. I know here in st. Louis, I frequent 4 different wally's from time to time, and only one carry's "cheap" ammo. It all depends on who does the ordering (according to the sports dept. manager I talked to).  The one that carrys UMC won't let me buy a case, but they did let me buy 30 boxes :-). They also carry federal "bulk packs" for 50 bucks (200rounds) It seems to be a little better then the UMC, and is hollow point. Thats what I use for the ol' coyotes.

Seriously and if you buy in bulk you don't have to wait a week to shoot, you should have a respectable stash of ammo for the days that you have the itchen to shoot.

I , at times, buy by the case when I have the dough, But most of the time I just chip away at my ammo cache by buying it one box at a time.  With 2 kids and 1 more due in July, the money isnt always there even though the wife IS on board. Just keep buying what you can afford wether it be steal case wolf or lake city. Be comfortable with what you can afford and dont let BOZOS put you down for it.

At walmart  here in Bradford Pa. they carry the white and green box Remington .223/ 55 grain fmj.  I bought the only box they had today and will probably try to talk to the sporting goods manager and see if I can talk him into ordering a few more boxes. BTW... I paid $3.97 + tax

I bought 7 boxes today at my local Chinamart because I was low on Federal XM193. I went to the range and shot the last of my XM193 then switched to the Remington. The zero was real close but I found the Remington to be not as accurate and much looser groups (100 yds / 1.5 to 2 moa with the XM193  - 2MOA with the remington with quite a few 4-6 MOA flyers). I'll still buy it for plinking ammo at that price.

I buy it from Natchez ( $3.69 ) instead of Chinamart, takes about 2-3 days for shipping to my door. No standing in line, driving , ect...

Add about $10.- for shipping on anything up to 1500 rounds, about what it costs me to drive to the nearest walmart.

ETA: + $4.- "handling charge" on top of  freight, but still cheaper and less pain than going to wal-mart   IMHO

I'm right there with you.  I'm poor as hell trying to keep up with these guys and they're extravagate buying habbits.  I have been buying a couple of boxes of this stuff for 3.97 a box when I can get a few bucks together.  Building the AR in the first place is hard enough without $209 left over for bulk orders.

I bought 1 box of the Rem-UMC today at the local Wallyworld. The WWB value packs were 9.98 like everywhere else. They didn't have any on hand, since I bought 8 boxes a couple of weeks ago. The guy at the counter said they only send him 1 box of Rem-UMC 223 at a time.hock.gif

I believe him, I've hit about 4 Wal-Marts and not a single one has had a box of the UMC on hand.  I can find the place on the shelf for it by the $3.97 price tag but it's always fricking empty.  Just wait, Remington's going to up the cost now because you guys gave it some attention.

150 feet, 16" RRA FreeFloated, Tripower, Aimpoint magnifier, benchrest, indoors at the NRA.

Till the last foresaken cursed shot on the left!

Nope.  Do it all the time.  It REALLY pisses you off when you see the 4th one fly 3/4" off.    One of the things that sucks about a 20X scope - you can see your bullet holes immediately.  When I see the 3 shot 1 hole grouping, my heart starts racing, because I have *never* *ever* been able to fire a 5 shot 1 hole group.  I have gotten a few 5 shot all-touching... but they always carried a verticle or horizontal string.

Is that so much to ask?

I dont know if the group opening up to .75 to 1MOA on the last couple is just statistical luck of the draw, or if the adrenaline factor really has an impact.  Sometimes I try and slow down.... but it never seems to fail.  It is almost always shot #4 or #5 that ruins my group.

Just checked out another WalMart near Denham Springs, La., and the guy was really nice and told me he was getting 10 boxes of WWB (40 round boxes) in the next week and he would keep ordering them as long as we kept buying them. He had only 2 boxes of the Rem UMC stuff and one white box of 45gr varmint.

But then he showed me a fair deal on some Federal 50gr HP (no, not the Win 45gr varmint stuff). It was a value pack of 200 rounds (boxed in 20s) for $49. They are Power-Shok and stamped FC 223. They have a 3400 muzzle velocity. They are in a bluish gray and red box. I bought his only two boxes for 400 rounds total.

Anybody know more about these Fed 50s? Looks like some good short range and plinking stuff.
