Product Description:  .223 Remington Centerfire Rifle Cartridge, 55-Grain Full Metal Jacket Boat-Tail Bullet, 3200 fps, 20 Rounds Per Box.

Edit:  Thanks for all the helpful answers.  I went with the Black Hills Blue Box becuase of all the accuracy reports I keep hearing.  Can't argue with that!

Does anyone actually use PMC as their primary ammo of choice?  I figure I'll go with them when I run out of Black Hills.

Thanks again for all the info.

its anealed (sp) brass. I never had any problems with any PMC ammo 5.56 or other. It is loaded to a lower pressure than m193.

Most, if not all brass is annealed. It just didn't get a final polishing before loading. There is nothing wrong with it.

That's XM193 on the right?

The only ammo I buy that looks that nice is Black Hills.

I've shot a bunch of the PMC .223, as has a friend.  Between us I bet we have shot over 30,000 of it.  I've never had a problem with misfires, split cases, FTF, FTEj, or FTEx that weren't attributed to magazines, dirty rifle, etc.  Good practice ammo.

Locally the price has climbed up to $195 per 1000.  Used to buy it for $150 per 1000.  $180 isn't bad...

I went through several thousand rounds of that stuff a few years back and had no problems. Not as accurate as BH out of my AR, but not noticably different for practice.

The annealing marks are your friend.  All military ammo has visible annealing marks.

All new cases should have anealing marks; it shows that the neck and shoulder have been properly treated to prevent splits and cracks.  I read that one of the government loading plants back in the 1930s did a study to see what effect it would have on case quality and durability to polish the anealing marks away.  They used simple walnut/corn cob tumbling media to polish the cases and then exposed them-along with a control group of unpolished cases-to a variety of environments (including leaving some out on the roof of their main building).  The polished cases fared no better than the unpolished cases, so the Ordnance Corps folks decided "why spend the time polishing the cases?"

Now if I could just remember which book I read that in...and then dig it out to verify my recollection...  I want to say it was a book on reloading, maybe the NRA hardback on reloading, but I'm not sure.

PMC AMMO SUCKS. I bought 300 rnds of it and 10 out of 300 rounds sucked because the bullet came loosly out of the case or pushed inwardsin the case  before firing. If you examine some bullets closely with your hands, you can turn the bullet around loosly while holding the case. Some bullets are just loose in its case.

Never has happened to me in my experience.  I even tried pulling a bullet once, and it took a tremendous amount of "whacking" with my kinetic bullet puller to get it loose.  The bullets had a black, sticky sealant on them.

So my 30,000 rounds of nary a problem is trumped by your 10 rounds of crap out of 300?  Every company can have a bad batch now and again (XM193 lots included!)  But hey, don't buy it, just means more ammo for me!

Come on dude, magazine fed, autoloading rifle, and a bullet with no cannelure. It is bound to happen sometimes, and is important enough that the cannelure is on all military rounds for a reason. So starting off with a big "PMC AMMO SUCKS", at an enthusiast board, and missing the obvious, will sure paint a picture.

The PMC ball ammo has a cannelure, asphaltine sealant and a crimp.
