I would say a 50 caliber muzzle loader.

Hunting with WHAT??  Pistol?  Rifle?  shotgun?  Slingshot??

I think you need to be a bit more specific.

Are you allowed to hunt deer in florida with a 223?  Could of sworn that when I lived down there that you needed to have a round at least .24 in diameter.

Any center fire rifle will work its Florida our deer are the size of dogs.

I think inzane123 was implying that it is a legal issue in the state of florida.  I was under the same impression.

I would go with the 64 gr PP plus load from winchester.  This is a load normally cited as being THE 223 deer load.  I live way up N. so our deer are kinda big and I would not even think about hunting deer with a 223, unless I was good enough to make neck or head shots only.

I would sure like it if they ever got the 6.8 off the ground.  That would be a fun deer round to try in the AR platform.

Make sure to check your laws.

I have only one experience with deer and .223. My BIL shot a spike buck with a regular 64 gr Power Point at about 60 yards. Shot placement was ideal. Took a few steps and was done.

I have hunted here all my life, and would suggest anything from a .270 up. even a .243 if your really sure of how good a shot you are.  The only problem  with a .223 or a .243 is the question about shooting hogs.  Though our deer are the size of dogs or pigs can get BIG. I hunt wit a .308  most of the time and feel very comfortable  that  if my shot placement is not perfect the animal is going down.  I would never use a magnum though, I saw a deer hit with a 7mm in the neck and it almost took his head off,

So look at a .270 a 30-30 or maybe even a 30-06.  I am really fond of the '06 becase you can just about anything in any state

I mostly hunt with either a .308 or 44mag but I figured since I just picked up my first AR I might give it a try this year not sure if I will but I was just out to get some info thanks
