In my post I said it was remmington ammo I was wrong when I pulled the little bit of case that was stuck in the bolt it was a federal round. We were useing both federal and rem ammo. And it looks like it happened to someone else over on the ammo section a dude just had the samething happen to him.

That is Read The Entire Post.

Now all is clearer.  Federal American Eagle .223 can and does have THIN WEBS.  I have explained this in another associated thread.  It is an artifact from shoddy case drawing in the first steps of cup formation.  While the case starts with the same blank of brass, the head is excessivley drawn, making the head thinner while the walls are thicker.

The AR15 and M16 have a short length of unsupported brass due to the chamfer at the barrel's end.  It is a small radius but when we are talking about 50,000+ PSI, no brass wall will support this pressure.  As seen, the brass is vaporized and deposited on the cooler metal.

I had a KB on reloaded American Eagle brass.  I sectioned a lot of these cases, noting horrible deviation in the case head thickness and some that would indeed rupture.

For the record, my measurement of various range brass plus the 25 or so American Eagle was an enlightening process.  I suggest measuring some of the brass on hand.  Strike that, measure ALL of it.  This is bull and Federal is shirking their responsibility since they know there are such firearms out there.
