Okay I have read the AMMO ORACLE several time's and I have read all of the info I can find that has been posted here in the ammo forum. I am really confussed about ammo selection and which is the best one to go with for plinking and target practice and which one for self defense. I have a Bushy flat top with a 16" 1x9 twist chrimed lined barrel. I am looking for ammo that is easy to come by at a local gun shop or wally world or some place like that and also that I can stock pile up on. I am also looking for the heaviest round that I can fire with out any problems thru my rifle from close to long range. I read where it say's you should only shoot round's in the 55gr to 69 gr range from a 1x9 twist barrel, but I have also read and seen some post saying you can shoot up to 77gr round with no problems and that the 1x9 twist will handel it with no problem. I would really apprieceate any advice or help that anyone can give me on this matter as I would like to be able to shoot and zero my rifle for the type of round's I would be useing for self defense and plinking and i can run down to the local shop and pick up any time. |

All 1:9 barrels can stabilize 68-69gr match bullets. As for the heavier 75-77gr class of bullets, some 1:9s work and others don't, and the only way to know if your barrel works is to get some of the ammo and try it. As for practice ammo, shoot what you like. -Troy |
| Thanks Troy I will go with either a 68gr to 69gr bullet, for the fact that it is the heaviest one I can use. Also with it being heavier I know it should do better as a self defense round, do you have any recommendations of what bullet I should go with along line's of either .223 or 5.56mm? |
