all things considered equal..same shooter, same gun, propertly cleaned etc...how much better groups could one expect at 100yds using say Black Hills Gold vs Wolf or Silver Bear? 1" diff? more? less?

depends on what "your gun" likes,  and on other factors such as bullet weight and twists.

so are you saying depending on the gun...55gr wolf may shoot better than 55gr black hills?

No that's not exactly what he saying.

We know nuthing about the rifle your asking about...., yea all things being equal, however the "problem" is all rifles are not equal.

Rounds that shoot "knots" in my rifles, may not shoot worth squat in yours.

That said, in general, a good chrome-lined 4150 barrel will shoot "better/tighter" groups with SMKs (weight dependent on the twist rate of the rifle) than the crappy rounds loaded into russian ammo.

With no info tho, suspect as I passed the first time on your thread others won't won't to go out on a limb either.....

Mike

ps - the lack of info makes this appear to be a trolling thread...

I dont know what "trolling means" but im offended.
What i mean is will wolf be even close to as accurate to Black Hills in a varmint barrel AR (RRA,bushmaster, colt, dpms, krieger, hart, lilja whatever)

*edit* reason im asking...ill pay $$$ for the best..but if i can assume results will be even close..ill go the cheap route.

Every rifle is different, but Wolf or Silver Bear aren't in the same class as Black Hills, the ONLY way to determine the difference is to shoot them in your rifle.  In most cases you would expect the Black Hills ammo to be a clear winner.

OK my old M4...

Wolf 62 grain 3-4 MOA
Q3131A  55 grain 2-2.5 MOA
BH 75 grain 1-1.5 MOA

Not even close.  Buy the BH stuff.

I was at the range yesterday.  69 gr SMK and 75 gr Hornady match bullets (handloaded) were shooting 5 shot groups of less than 0.5" at 100 yards.

Wolf 62 gr FMJ were grouping about 4 inches (or more)...

This is out of a 20" Wilson SS NM 1:8.

To me there is no comparison between quality ammo with good components and bargain ammo like Wolf.  They are for different purposes.

Wolf is great for cheap blasting when good accuracy really isn't a concern.

For anything more precise, you'll need more.

My $.02...

I get more way out there flyers with 10cent Russian, but my Armalite M15A4 is avg 2-2.5" on any Russian, 1.5" on good brass stuff like Spanish SS109 or Q3131, and .7-1" on Swiss GP90 and Black Hills. All for 5 at 100, scoped, rested, RRA 2 stage trigger results.

Different rifles will produce different results.

My rifles:
1 - DPMS 16", no chrome, bare muzzel, scope, 1in9 twist
2 - STAG based M4gery, chrome barrel and chamber, flash suppresor, red dot, 1in9 twist

Wolf
1.) 1" @ 50yds; 1.5" @ 75yds; 2-3.5" @ 100yds
2.) 1.5"@50yds; 2.5" @ 75yds; 4-6" @ 100yds

Q3131a
1.) 0.8" @ 50yds; 2-2.5" @ 100yds
2.) 1.5" @ 50yds; 3" @ 100yds

Winchester Supreame Silver Tip 55gr ($0.80 per round)
1.) 0.3 - 0.7" @ 50yds; 1-1.25" @ 100yds
2.) 1" @ 50yds

Hand loaded 75gr Hornady Match
1.) 1.5" @ 100 yds
2.) 3" @ 50 yds

As you can see two rifles can do very different things with the same ammo.  I'd say in general match ammo will produce consistantly better groups than Wolf.  Nobody can tell you how many inches though.
