Does anyone know why the “Power Point Plus” load from Winchester has been discontinued? I was doing some surfing of prices and while quite a few places still have it in stock, it’s no longer in production. Cheaper than Dirt had it on clearance (only had five boxes, I bought them), and it’s not even listed on Wichester’s site anymore.

I just started using it last year, for both duty and deer hunting use, and it quickly became my favorite non-fmj .223 load.

Any ideas on why it’s dead? Is it just a lack of market demand, or have there been problems with this ammo…?

Probably poor sales, once folks figured out it really wasn't any different than the Super-X loading, which was/is less expensive.

Troy –

Do you mean no ‘functional’ difference…? That’s probably true, or at least awful close; they’re both 64-grain SP’s. But they are very different bullets, loaded differently.

Besides the moly coating, the "PP+" load has (had… h
The “Power Point” load (super X) is a much more blunt bullet, non-moly-coated, at a slightly lower velocity.

It’s not a ‘life-tragedy’ that it’s gone; I just liked the load, and the only deer I’ve taken with .223 was with this load. (Dropped like a White House intern, btw. I was very impressed.)

I’m sure I’ll “manage” with normal .223/5.56 loads once these aren’t available; and if I keep the few boxes I have of it strictly for hunting & duty use, it will take a long time to use up. Primarily, I was hoping that there hadn’t been problems with it in use. Pressure problems, case neck separations at the crimp, etc. Nobody’s mentioned any here or at another board where I posted this question, so I’m tempted to agree with you that it was a market issue, and not a performance issue; which is good to know.

Thanks for the info and for the site. I don’t post here much, but when I do, the responses are civil, reasonable and respectable; all too uncommon on a gun board nowadays.
