What brands of ammo use the 55gr. bullet found in m193? Trying to decide what commercial ammo will have the wounding mechanics of XM193 |
|
It's easier to list those that I know does not: - Russian ammo (this includes Wolf/Tula, Barnaul, Uly, etc.) - Czech ammo (S&B) Just about every other brand of 55gr FMJ I've seen has bullets that are roughly M193-spec. The main problem is that many of them are loaded to much lower pressures/velocities, which significantly reduces fragmentation range. And this applies mostly to domestic ammo, as *most* of the 5.56 we get imported is military surplus ammo from other countries. '99 and later PMC, and '96 and later South African are also SAAMI loads, not 5.56/M193 pressure. -Troy |

Most 55 gr ball ammo is loaded with a FMJBTWC bullet, but there are differences in the bullets. Anyone who reloads a lot of 55 gr can tell you that. IMI's 55gr FMJBTWC is different than that of WIN. And even WIN's bullets are not all the same. The cannalures are sometimes in different positions on the bullet. What impact that might have on the bullet's terminal ballistics is beyond my knowledge. |
